Behind The Scenes at Howies Printshop

Here’s a great little video that I stumbled upon on Twitter and made by BDC. It’s titled The Making of a T-Shirt and it’s a 2 minute short on how one T-Shirt making company can be a tool for change.

The last time it was Back To The Future, this time around, Johnny Cupcakes will be screening The Karate Kid! If you live in the Boston area then definitely check this out. You can expect not just the movie, but also trivia, games, raffles and of course, limited edition Johnny Cupcakes shirts only available at the screening. Plus, I heard that everyone that attends gets a free Johnny Cupcakes bandana ala The Karate Kid! Check out below for more information.

“Join me on Saturday March 14th at 11:55pm (midnight) to see THE KARATE KID on the big screen for $7.75 @ The Coolidge Corner Theatre on 290 Harvard Street – Brookline, MA. We even got a hold of the original movie reel from back in the day! And… we might even have a special karate expert guest, karate-chop stuff in half before the movie starts! I will have a NEW limited movie themed t-shirt / colorway that is limited and numbered up to 50 or 60. We will release some of these to the public in a different colorway, but the numbered ones will be available only at this event. Also, I have special, exclusive Johnny Cupcakes Karate Kid head bandannas that will be given out to each person for free!” -Johnny Cupcakes

Marvellous Marvin by Wotto

It probably an understatement to say that Craig “Wotto” Watkins is beloved in the  indie t-shirt scene. Wotto has had a ton of designs printed by various brands including Threadless, Fuzzy Ink, TeeFury, and Shirt.Woot just to name a few. His online portfolio shows off a humungous collection of tee designs that he had been commissioned to do.

Now Wotto has decided to take the plunge and have one of his designs printed under his own Wotto brand and have them for sale at his Big Cartel store. The tee is called Marvellous Marvin and it’s a limited edition print and has the distinct recognition as being the first self-printed Wotto design. As with most Wotto designs, the cuteness factor of Marvellous Marvin is very high! The design is printed on an American Apparel tee and is available for $17 but you can score a 15% discount with the coupon code “friends”.

Might this be the first step away from Wotto doing designs for other brands? Is he preparing for world domination? Only time will tell…dun dun dun!

Let’s Get High by Rizzo Tees

You guys probably know by now how much I love videos! Well, Chris from Rizzo Tees has started to use online video to promote his brand and recently unveiled his latest shirt design. You might remember that I covered Rizzo Tees a few months ago when they first opened up shop, despite having a large inventory of designs, they have not released a new tee up until now. So I was quite excited to see what they had up their sleeves.

The new tee was a designed by a fan of Rizzo Tees and Chris decided to go with this as the first new print since the launch. It’s called Let’s Get High, and despite the drug reference, I think it’s a fun play on that phrase. The product page says, “Just say no….. to thin mountain air.  It’s just too hard to breathe up there.” It’s available now at Rizzo Tees for the launch price of $15. Remember, Rizzo Tees is part of the Attack of the Coupon Codes promotion so be sure to use the code” COTY” at checkout to save yourself 10% off your entire order!

The Jon Wye Workshop

If you’re a regular reader of this blog then you know how much I dig the gear that Jon Wye has been pumping out. For the uninformed, Jon Wye is a belt and t-shirt designer based out of Washington, D.C. If you need a quick review of Jon Wye then I suggest you check out Indie Tee Spotlight #14 for an interview that I did with Jon, Glorious Nonsensities Episode 1 for a video review of one of his custom belts and of course, head over to his website to buy Jon Wye stuff!

Also, Jon recently posted a video on his website that introduces his brand and shows off his Washington D.C. workshop. He has got a lot of cool machinery!

Also, it’s Attack of the Coupon Codes time, you can save 5 bucks on your next Jon Wye order with the coupon code “5up”.

Shipping Craziness + Sale at NIWL

These pics from NIWL made me go WHOA! Looks like they are moving a lot of tees! It might be because they are having a super sale right now at the NIWL store – all of their tees have been marked down. Even their new tees have been makred down from $20-$22 to $14-$15. I think I’ll have to pick up Wizard of Wonder Land now! If you’re a Blink-182 fan then you might want to pick that one up to.

Why the sale? Well it seems that Darren and Kass (check out Indie Tee Spotlight #6 for more information about them) are moving to the Philippines and will be living there for a few months. Not to worry though, they have promised that they will continue to do NIWL. Good luck Darren and Kass!

“We will still be doing NIWL, and no shipping isn’t going to be an insane amount. We think that it is only going to cost a little bit more but not to much. It is a big move and we are really excited. Nothing is finalized yet but it seems like it is going to happen some where around June. We are gonna do Warped tour in Pomona then leave to the Philippines right after.”

The first shirt reviewed was sent to me by William Matte, Jr. from  Prestigious Clothing and it’s called I Had A Dream Once and was designed by Mathew Skiff.  The second tee reviewed in this episode was sent to by my pals at Kosher Ham and is called I’m A Player. As always, enjoy with tea and a comfy tee!

Coty’s Thoughts:

I Had A  Dream Once… by Mathew Skiff and available at Prestigious Clothing. Good: Massive, massive print on the front, I love the fit of American Apparel tees, colors look great on black. Bad: Not the biggest fan of pink but it works on this tee, not tagless. Price: $17.00 but you can save 10% with the coupon code “prestigious”.

I Had A Dream Once by Prestigious Clothing

I’m A Player by Kosher Ham. Good: Then NES controller is classic so kudos just for that being there, Kosher Ham logo printed on the back, available in a bunch of different color options, great fit (American Apparel). Bad: Not tagless. Price: $19.99 but you can save 10% with the coupon code “COTYFANS”.

I'm A Player by Kosher Ham

What Would MacGyver Do? by Glenn Jones and available at Threadless. Love this shirt! Only available in girl sizes so be sure to pick one up ladies! And for the record, I’d carefully peel the tube and use every inch of it as carefully as possible. Price: $9.00.

The People Have Voted – Call For Help Newest Glennz Tee

About a week ago I posted about a mega finding I stumbled upon on Glenn Jones Behance page. He had posted a sock drawer full of concept art for potential Glennz Tees prints. Since then, Glenn officially posted these on his site here allowing the tee loving community to vote for their faves. I urge you to check it out because he posted some new concept art there that weren’t on his Behance page.

Well, the people have spoken and the first tee that Glennz Tees has printed based on popular vote goes to Called For Help. I’m kind of surprised with this pick because there are so many designs there that I thought were more worthy of being printed. Don’t get me wrong, I love most all of Glennz designs and would love to see them all printed! Am I a Glennz Tees fanboy? Yeah, I think so.

Zooshirts

Are you an animal lover? If so, then you might fall in love with Zooshirts! As you can tell by these product shots, Zooshirts specializes in wildlife oriented, eco-friendly clothing that supports animal and global conservation. Zooshirts loves animals!

Zooshirts strives to be a green company, because of this, they print all of their designs on 100% organic cotton shirts. They currently have 6 different tees available, albeit in the same style, featuring 6 different animals. You can pick up a shirt today for $18 and a portion of sales from Zooshirts goes to the World Wildlife Fund’s Global Conservation Efforts. So every time you buy a Zooshirt tee, you are helping to preserve our animal kingdom.

So what do you guys think about Zooshirts? I’m a bit torn – I love the style but kind of wished they had done something different for each of the shirts. I think these would definitely sell if they got zoos across the US and the world to pick these up and sell them in their gift shops. My favorite? Rhino, Rhino, Rhino, Rhino….
