Co-Tee TV Episode 17: Pyknic Clothing, LOWDTOWN Friends & Freaks

In this episode I wear the Signature Silvareware Tee from Pyknic Clothing and review Public Radio from LOWDTOWN Friends & Freaks, a New Jersey based brand started by student Ray Masaki out of a desire to create a brand with focus, a consistent theme and amazingly creative designs. Use the coupon code “COTY” on your next LOWDTOWN Friends & Freaks purchase and save 10%. As always, enjoy with tea and a comfy tee!

Coty’s Thoughts:

Public Radio by Ray Masaki of LOWDTOWN Friends & Freaks and Nathaniel Milburn. Good: Love this design, great collaboration between Ray and Nathaniel, colors work wonderfully together and is a great tee to wear out to the park on a sunny day or one that you could just as easily wear fashionably around town. It’s tagless for itch free comfort and has a screenprinted label, The custom custom hangtag is impressive and the embroidered seam tag adds an extra touch of professionalism normally seen only on higher priced tees. Bad: Not much, this tee should put a smile on your face – if you’re having a bad day throw this shirt on and you’ll begin to feel positive vibes! Price: $21.99 but you can save 10% if you use the coupon code “COTY” at checkout.

Signature Silverware Tee by Pyknic Clothing. Great shirt, I’m not sure what kind of blank Pyknic Clothing uses but I really like the feel of this shirt, it’s very soft, just like the massive print. Really dig the design, love the subtle, classic and mature look of this Pyknic tee. Paired with nice vintage jeans, white dunks, along with a jacket (or blazer) over tis tee and you’re good to go for a night out in the town. Price: $24.98.

I grind rails not coffee.

Oh yes, back in the day, back in my younger days. Now I do neither. Loose leaf tea FTW!

If life’s a beach then I’ve got a sun burn.

I had a great day at the beach, alone, and it was wonderful. Soaked up the sun and enjoyed the Pacific Ocean. Where is your favorite beach?

Driving a stick shift is like watching TV without a remote, hard.

I’ve tried on numerous occasions to learn stick shift, but I’ve never practiced for a long enough period of time for me to get it. And the question that I post to those that boast driving stick is better is … why? Seriously, would you watch a TV without a remote and get up and go to the TV each time you wanted to change the channel? Probably not. Similarly, why do you want to work for every shift when there are cars that do it automatically? I just don’t get it I guess.

Save the bees: they help keep the world sweet.

Did you know that the worlds bee population is seriously and mysteriously decreasing. This is something that we need to be concerned about because it could potentially mean the end of mankind. No joke. And plus, they help keep the world sweet. A world without sweetness would quite simply be lame.

As I look at you all I see are a bunch of falling green letters.

This is me trying to be Neo. Imagine for a second how awesome it would be to be The One. If you didn’t get any of those two references then you need to put The Matrix on your Netflix queue right now.

Babies make the world a better place. Except when they poop.

In all seriousness, babies really do make the world a better place. I was watching an episode of Grey’s Anatomy (yes, I watch Grey’s Anatomy) and it was a sad episode that involved the death of young child. Such a downer. Coming up with this slogan made me smile again.

Laughter makes me do the happy dance.

Comedy is such a great thing. About two weeks ago I started watching Arrested Development on DVD and absolutely love it! Such a great show. Terrible shame that it was canceled – damn you FOX!

The Printed Mind Sneak Peak

Levi Hardeman just showed off some of the new products for the upcoming The Printed Mind line of tees and I’ve got them here for you to checkout. You might remember Levi from his previous successful venture, Word! Apparel.  From the photos it looks like The Printed Mind is going the Johnny Cupcakes route and will be parodying pop icons. The initial line already parodies the films Major League and Terminator.

This post is more a tease than anything else, since you can’t buy these guys just yet. The Printed Mind is set to launch, I believe, within the next or month so – just in time for summer. Be sure to click “more” to see ALL 7 promo shots.

Interview with Threadless Loves Green Winner Kanzaki Choi

I had the opportunity to interview Kanzaki Choi, who this week won the Threadless Loves Green Contest! Post in the comments section here what you’ve been doing to help keep the earth green and you could win the Threadless Loves Green winning design, Show Me The Vanilla Sky..Pls!! (1 winner will be randomly chosen from the pool of people that leave a comment here). Good luck and congratulations Kanzaki!

Coty: What was your reaction when you found out that you won the Threadless Loves Green contest with your entry, Show Me The Vanilla Sky..Pls!!?

Kanzaki: It was the best moment in my life….I was crying, screaming, howling, spanking myself and finally I found it wasn’t a dream!!! Thanks Threadless and the amazing community gave me the staggering journey.

Coty: What was the inspiration behind your winning design?

Kanzaki: The bird eyes view line drawing has its thrill, it is dramatic and epic for story telling, you can find it very common in Japanese Manga. The design is a story telling approach, I try to tell the audients how do our animal friends feels while we human beings turning the planet to a furiously polluted “vanilla sky”, though they cannot say anything to complain, we should feel guilty when seeing the vanilla sky scene from their perspective. I think the bird eyes view is perfect to deliver that kind of impact both visually and psychologically how we perceive the message.

Coty: Along with the cash prize from Threadless, you will also be receiving a ton of community donated prizes – which of these prizes are you most looking forward to?

Kanzaki: Yea!!! This is definitely one of the best part of this contest and thanks Threadless had this great idea!! :) Though it is very hard to pick they all sounds great! I would say I’m anticipating goodies from bnannas, who courtesy an original song about whatever I like!! Alvarejo, the amazing artist who courtesy an “insanely detailed” portrait of me!! Haha… how funny that will turn out!! And ivejustquitsmoking (Marco), the creative genius who will courtesy an “experimental painted pair of shoes” !!:D

Coty: Which of the Loves Green entries were your favorites, which ones did you think would win?

Kanzaki: There are just too many top designs! Threadless can simply print the Green subs for a new line of green tees!! “Carpooling is Fun!” by Alvarejo, it has so much fun and goodness in one!! Killer work for sure! “Clean-Up, Clean-Up, Everybody, Everywhere”. A great idea with epic execution by alexmdc, the winning contender of the last two Threadless loves contest. They are the winners for me, and still many designs that I really love personally, such as “The Vicious Circle of Deforestation” by Tang Yau Hoong, “The Beginner’s Guide to Tree hugging” by gumbolimbo and “Forget Me Not” by yeohgh.

Coty: What are some of the things that you do to help keep the planet green?

Kanzaki: There are many things we can do to help reduce harm to the planet, one of those that not many people know is buying less bottled water. I don’t purchase bottled water, as it uses up oil and other fossil fuels to be produced and shipped, fills up landfills, represents wasted money, produce of CO2, thus contribute to global warming. It is very simple that we can drink tap water and reuse plastic bottles to help keep the planet green.

Thanks again to Kanzaki Choi for taking the time to chat with me, and remember, leave a comment here for your chance to win Show Me The Vanilla Sky..Pls!! by Kanzaki Choi!

Love Awareness 10-Point Program by Fuct

Fuct just released photos of their Spring 2009 line and one tee in particular stood out for me. The Love Awareness 10-Point Program is an amazing tee because of the list of 10 things on the back. They are only preview images and so I can’t make out the entire list, but the ones that I was able to read  I did agree with. A nice way to make a political statement and the perfect tee to wear to your next political science, philosophy or ethics class.

In case you’re not familiar with Fuct, it was started by Erik Brunetti in 1991, a graffiti artist based out of Venice. Many consider Erik to be the father of subversive streetwear, “a style of designing stemming from the Situationist movement – which involves subtly changing,re-appropriating or subverting various pop culture themes and icons,as well as anti-government and anti-religion campaigns. Brunetti took the transformative ideals of the Situationists of the 60’s and applied those aesthetics to the society of today.” Very cool stuff.
