HUGE laFraise €15,000 ($20,000) Contest

This is possibly the largest prize money ever for a single T-Shirt contest and I’m excited to see who’ll take home the cash! laFraise is kicking off their new site redesign in a big way, by giving out a truckload of cash. This is seriously a big deal, considering that Threadless, arguably the largest and most successful online T-Shirt contest site gave-a-way $20,000 for it’s Bestees awards, laFraise is going to giveaway €15,000 (roughly $20,915.59 USD) to the winner of their 15K contest. If you’re a designer, you definitely want to get in on this!

Sum of Google 2009

I spotted these Google tees a while ago on the Every Loves Free Stuff blog, but it’s been sitting in my drafts folder and I just never got around to typing a blurb for it! Anyhow, love this mathematical infused Google company shirt that was distributed to employees to celebrate the workforce. Google, do you need a hardworking blogger? I’d love to be a part of your team. They also serve as a subtle and friendly reminder that functioning as a team player is a good thing when working at Google!

Halo Teabag

I’ve never played Halo. Yeah, I’m not much of a gamer. Despite that, I can still appreciate this lovely shirt from our friends at NerdyShirts. For those of you so incline, check out the this older post for a little video and even more tea bagging inspired shirts!

The Twelve Time World Champion

Here’s a great tee design from Design By Humans member louisroskosch, I just love the illustration! I’ve always been a fan of wrestling, with my interest peaking in the late 80′s and early 90′s. Since then, I’d watch WWE in spurts but ever since they started showing Monday Night Raw on repeat and in HD on Sundays I started to watch a little more.

The Twelve Time Champion by Design By Humans

The Twelve Time World Champion features a pretty hefty wrestler! Who was your favorite hefty wrestler? Andre the Giant was a bit slow moving. Yokozuna was a meanie. Remember Earthquake? I think the Big Show has to be the most versatile of hefty wrestlers. What do you think? Buy The Twelve Time World Champion from Design By Humans for $20 now!

Your Mom Is Not A Valid Test Market

Here’s a funny shirt that I spotted at Venture Capital Wear thanks to @ryancarson of Carsonified. The product description mentions “…and the fact that your Mom would use your product just proves that she is not a valid test market.” I wonder if this applies to MILF’s?

Your  Mom Is Not A Valid Test Market is available for purchase at Venture Capital Wear for $15.

The Knuckle Collision

The newest tee from ShirtFight is a serious knockout! I believe that this is the best ShirtFight tee to date and truly embodies what the site is about. I really love this shirt, love the whole vintage boxing poster feel. Plus, the illustration is hilarious! Previous ShirtFight winner, yonil, beat out a pretty tough crowd of designers to take the Heavyweight theme this past week so much congratulations to her!

Interview With Threadless Less Is More Winner Aaron Hogg

Here’s another opportunity to win some T-Shirt goodness! I had the chance to interview Aaron Hogg, this weeks Threadless Loves Less Is More winner! Post in the comments section and tell me what Less Is More means to you and I will randomly select one (1) winner to receive a $25 Threadless Gift Certificate that you can use to pick up Natural Selection by Aaron Hogg or any other tee you choose!

For an extra entry, be my fan of Co-Tee TV on Facebook and post a comment on my wall telling me what Less Is More means to you. (1 winner will be randomly chosen from the pool of people that leave a comment here and on my Facebook fanpage, leave a comment in both places and get two entries). Good luck and congratulations Aaron!

Contest ends on Monday, July 13, 2009 at 11:59 pm Hawaii time. The winner will be announced the following day!

Coty: What was the most difficult part about being restricted to the 2006 submission guidelines?

Aaron: I guess just making the image work with 4 inks. I actually really like working under restrictions, particularly in shirt design, it helps me focus. I went for a kinda faux 50s execution because a lot of the stuff from that era was done with limited colour palettes so it seemed to fit the brief.

Coty: As the Threadless Loves Less Is More Winner, you will be receiving, aside from the $2500 from Threadless, an amazing amount of community donated prizes. Which of the community prizes are you most excited about?

Aaron: They all excite me in one way or another. But if I had to hone it down, I’d say the art prints & original artworks & the coffee, I am a coffee junkie so that sounds mighty fine. I just feel sorry for Threadless having to ship them all the way to NZ. Thats gonna cost an arm & a leg. I only just moved back here from Vancouver too.

Coty: You’ve been a member at Threadless even before 2006. What’s your all time favorite Threadless design?

Aaron: Oh man, thats such a hard question. The answer has changed probably 50 times during my time there. At the moment my favorite design is Untitled by Dan Sheffield (Tesco), I love everything he does. I even have a Tesco tattoo, which I guess officially makes me ‘gay for him’.

Coty: What does “Less Is More” mean to you? Are you a “Less Is More” kind of guy?

I guess less is more means that as a golden rule if you can communicate the concept behind your design simply & with less clutter it is more effective than doing it in a complicated way. I am trying to be a less is more kinda guy but as you can tell from the majority of my work I am failing. I enjoy creating & get a fair number of jobs from my over-the-top complex stuff but funnily enough most of the designers I rank the highest are minimalist in their aesthetic. As I develop & learn I think I will head this way myself.

Coty’s Thoughts:

Lend You A Hand by Joe Choe and available at tFuse. Good: The hand print is massively impressive! The shirt itself is super soft. Tagless for itchfree comfort, love that! Awesome design. The print is pretty soft but not super soft. Bad: Great shirt, my only complaint is: the packaging (which has nothing to do with the product because I think the shirt itself is flawless)! For such an awesome shirt, I just wish they paid a little more attention to the packaging details. Price: $19

Turtle Power by Cryface and available at Integral Apparel. Good: Fun design, especially for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fans! Love the bright yellow of this Alstyle tee. Custom hangtags with washing instructions attached. Bad: Not tagless, wish that the print was a bit larger. Price: $19.80.
