MacGyver Is The Father

Do I ever tire of witty MacGyver tees? No, not really. For some reason, MacGyver tees are always awesome (to me at least). And this shirt from SnorgTees is no different. Necessity Is The Mother is yet another excellent MacGyver themed T-Shirt, and guess what, this tee was made out of a toothpick, a rubber band, and some tin foil. Pretty amazing, huh. Pick up this tee from SnorgTees for $18.95 and remember that if you spend $60 or more you score free shipping anywhere in the United States!

Heroes Inspired T-Shirts by Funkrush Clothing

I stopped watching Heroes a while back because it just became too complicated and overbearing for me. Having said that, I adore these new tees from Funkrush Clothing! This three shirt series features three characters from the show, including my favorite, Hiro Nakamura. I was never a big fan of Claire Bennet – she always annoyed me for some reason.

The tees have a very retro, print ad, look and feel. They are very detailed and I am sure the hardcore Heroes fans will appreciate that. I wonder what will happen if you call the Gabriel Gray number featured on the Sylar tee. The designs were done by artist and illustrator, Riccardo Bucchioni and are available now from Funkrush Clothing for £20.

A Little Story About Kevin Garnett

I’ve featured A.J. Dimarucot aka Collision Theory on this blog many times before (read interview) and was excited when I read this post that he made over at Emptees regarding a Kevin Garnett design that he did a year ago. This story should be pretty inspiring for you would be and hopeful designer types.

I had a friend who worked in Adidas in my country and I emailed him the graphic, asking him to send it over to his US contacts. I was hoping they would pick it up and use it on t-shirts.

A year passed and nothing came of it. Until June of this year.

I got an email.

From Adidas.

They wanted to buy the graphic.

Fuck

I didn’t wait long enough….I had sold the graphic to a clothing line who liked the zombie quality of the design. And they didn’t really care that it was actually KG. I never expected Adidas to come back to me after so long. So I sold the damn design to someone else!

So I told the Adidas contact it was not available anymore expecting I would probably miss the only chance I could work with a client like Adidas. But good thing they wanted me to do graphics for Dwight Howard (fuck you SWH haha) and Derrick Rose. So I did! They’re not in stores yet and probably won’t be available until 2010 (if at all they print it).

So I was stoked. Thinking I was lucky enough to have worked for them. Damn good pieces for the folio.

I thought it would end there.

Come November of this year. Nike US emails me and asks if I could do some t-shirt graphics for them. Telling me how much they like my work. They actually showed me a design of mine they really liked.

Guess what graphic it was..

..KEVIN FUCKING GARNETT!!

So I did two Nike Air Max graphics for them for their Europe accounts. They paid me a damn huge amount and they may or may not print the design.

So there. I officially love Kevin Garnett.

Moral of the story. Do things you love. One day someone will pay you for it.

Mutant Uprising and More From Seibei!

I’m a huge fan of Seibei and find myself constantly wearing the Dino Sandwich tee (but you knew that already). It looks like I’ll need to add the new supersized predator tee to my growing Seibei collection. Mutant uprising brings the shield look to the Seibei line and a new spidey like character makes his debut in Snack Life. Junior Birdman is also back in this new linee in a new colorway. As always, the new Seibei line is bright, funky and fool of foolish fun. If you’re a Seibei fan it’ll be hard to pass on at least one of these new tees. Pick one up now for $22 and be sure to use the code “HAPPY” for 25% off your entire order through December 22nd. Awesome!

Coty’s Thoughts:

Isometric by EIO (Excess Is OK) Clothing. Pros: The tee from EIO Clothing has got to be THE softest shirt that I have ever had the pleasure of trying on. It’s even softer than that Finroo tee I reviewed a few months back. The shirt is just perfect, not too thin and yet not to thick and it feels great against your skin. It’s a trendy shirt, yes, and would probably best be suited for a night out to a club (maybe throw on a blazer and you’ll be good to go). The black and gold print is soft to the touch and does not weigh down the T-Shirt at all. Isometric features cut and sew elements with a custom neck tag and custom tag on the lower left portion of the shirt. Comes wrapped in tissue paper. Cons: A bit pricey, but then again, this is a high fashion T-Shirt made with high quality materials. Some people might not like that the length is made to come just below the belt. Price: £29.95 ($48 US)

Evolution of War by Crazy Dog T-Shirts. Pros: Fun design that’s perfect for any World of Warcraft addict (and we all know at least one of those). The Alstyle T-Shirt provides a nice fit that is comparable to American Apparel and the cotton feels good. Affordable at just $16.99. Cons: Not tagless, ink used for printing is a bit thick. Price: $16.99 (Use the code “HOHOHO” at checkout to score $5 off).

NerdyShirts Does Helvetica

When Experimental Jetset created their “John & Paul & Ringo & George” for the Japanese label 2K/Gingham I would bet money that they probably did not think it would become the cultural icon that it did. “John & Paul & Ringo & George” has been parodied over and over and over again. Or should I say, Over & Over & Over again. NerdyShirts now adds to the list of brands and individuals capitalizing on the success of Experiment Jetset’s typographic idea. Pick up all four of these shirts for $19.97 a piece and score free shipping. Place your order before this Friday (12/18/2009) to make sure you receive it before Christmas!

Springfield Still Life

Wow, other than the occasional Threadless sale reminder post, I haven’t really posted about a Threadless tee in a while. What ever happened to Coty Loves Threadless? Hmmm….

In an case, I couldn’t resist posting this tee by Alvaro Arteaga Sabaini. It’s called Springfield Still Life and is an obvious nod to The Simpsons. I remember when this show first came out, I was about 8 years old and in the third grade. It was 1989 and doodling Simpsons characters were all the rage. I can’t believe The Simpsons have endured on TV this long. Then again, why not? It was and still is an amazing show.

Pick up Springfield Still Life from Threadless for the cheap price of $10. Better do so quickly because who knows how long this current Threadless sale will last or how long this tee will be available before it’s sold out.

Coty’s Thoughts:

The Eagle Has Landed by Nineteen Ten Co. Pros: Amazing packaging! Nineteen Ten Co. obviously spent a lot of time focusing on branding and it shows though their well thought out packaging. Design is printed on a 100% cotton American Apparel tee which is always a plus because of comfort and fit. Brand emphasizes that fair trade and fair labor materials are used in their products. Bunch of extras packaged with the shirt, including stickers and postcards. Cons: Not tagless. Graphic on shirt reminds me a bit of something I would find at American Eagle. Price: $22.

Girls Direct To Your Room…

This is the kind of shirt that would only be the norm in a city like Las Vegas. I spotted this tee when an old friend of mine posted the pic seen below on her Facebook. If you’ve ever been to Vegas you probably noticed the people that line the streets handing out flyers to the various strip joints. Many of them sport matching T-Shirts like this one. They are straight and to the point, and hey, they turn a living human being into a walking billboard. I wonder if the I Wear Your Shirt dude would wear one of these for cash.

And just in case you’re wondering – she won this tee at a company Christmas party. Again, only in Vegas.

Someone Is Reading My Shirt
