Pssssssst. I’m going to let you in on a secret. Gama-Go is having a 24 hour sale, starting tomorrow (September 23) and all hoodies will be priced at just $44. That’s insane, considering that Gama-Go hoodies are normally priced at $64. Go save yourself $20 and pick up a hoodie (or two) tomorrow.
And so you might be wondering, what the heck will I do with that extra $20?! I know, why don’t you pick up a pair of Gama-Go T-Shirts to go with that new hoodie. If you use the coupon code TWOTEES44 at checkout, you will score two tees of your choice for just $44. And with tees normally priced at $28, you’ll end up saving another $12!
Before there was How I Met Your Mother, there was Friends. Thing is, I never watched Friends as a teen growing up in the 90′s. I know, I missed out. After falling in love with How I Met Your Mother and because everyone compared it to Friends (even the producers of HIMYM admit that it pays homage to Friends) I decided to give it a go.
It helped that my roommate owns the complete Friends series on DVD. So, about 2 years back I began my Friends education, starting with Season one. I’m currently on Season 5, and I admit, Friends is awesome stuff and I’m a bit ashamed that I missed out on this piece of pop culture growing up.
So what’s the point, you wonder? Well, I found out that there’s a Friends fanatic in the lab that I work at. He claims to have seen every episode from season 4 on at least three times. He likes to ask people random Friends Trivia. He has all of season 5 on his iPhone. Anyway, I overheard him asking some Friends trivia the other day, and surprisingly, I knew the answers (at least up to Season 5). I was stoked, and that actually made me want to watch even more episodes of Friends just so that I could come up with a good trivia question for our Friends fanatic.
The one With All The Thanksgivings was a great episode. Incidentally, that’s where I’m at now and what’s even better is that that episode is breading ground for good Friends trivia. So I came up with a question from that episode that actually stumped him. The question?
To say that Nick Automatic is killing would probably be an understatement. Nick Automatic founder, Nicolo Nimor, has been hustling like crazy in his native Philippines and has built up quite a following in his homeland (and beyond). Not content with the occasional pop up shop, Nick Automatic will now have it’s own dedicated shop in Cebu City, Philippines.
Nimor plans to open the doors to his newest venture this Thursday, September 24. He even posted a sneak peak of his shop on the official Nick Automatic Facebook page. Though still a work in progress, I have to say that things are looking pretty tight. Hopefully I can nudge Nicolo into sending me a few more photos of his shop and of the grand opening?! Nicolo, you there? While we wait for those photos, check out some of the upcoming Nick Automatic tees below.
If you live in the Cebu City area or will be visiting the Philippines sometime in the near future then be sure to stop by the Nick Automatic Doodle Shop:

Fresh off of their Co-Tee TV Episode #75 feature, our friends at Random Objects decided to release a new tee! The shirt is aptly named What Goes Around Comes Around – and for good reason. Design wise, it just makes sense. The tee is minimal and to the point, both qualities that I really dig when looking for new T-Shirts to feature.
Some people call it Karma, while others say “You reap what you sow”. Either way, your actions inevitably lead to positive or negative consequences. So why not try and say and do positive things for yourself and others. This will benefit you in more ways than you could ever image. Or you could choose to do malicious and harmful things. Just remember “What goes around, comes around.”
Grab bags are fun but for some, the mystery can be a little nervewracking. So I put the $5 TeeFury grab bag to the test and picked up three Grab Bag tees during their last promotion and did an unwrapping video just for you. Did I like the mystery tees that were sent to me? Watch below to find out and see which tees I got!
If you want to get in on the Grab Bag fun then be sure to check out TeeFury because for the next 24 hours, the  fabulous TeeFury grab bag promotion is back! $5 dollars will score you one random TeeFury tee that you’ll either love or hate, either way, it’s just $5. And if you end up not liking it, hey, we all have friends that love free stuff.
And if you couldn’t tell from the video, I was pretty stoked with my grab bag pickings!
I enjoy receiving emails from my readers, but I enjoy even more receiving an email when it’s from a crazy faraway place like Glasgow, Scotland. The few things that I know about Scotland involve kilts, the Loch Ness Monster and Roddy Roddy Piper. And it turns out that Roddy Roddy Piper, famed WWE superstar isn’t even from Glasgow, Scotland. He’s a Canadian!
In any case, I can now add Frog Face Souply to the short list of things that I know about Scotland. Frog Face Souply is a husband and wife team that is in the business of making fun and intriguing T-Shirts. They definitely hit the sweet spot (for me, at least) with Diamonds, a shirt that was inspired by the classic Beatles track. And since we’re chatting about nonsensical and off tangent things like Roddy Piper being Canadian, did you know that Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds is not about a psychedlic LCD trip but instead was inspired by a drawing that John Lennon’s son Julian did in nursery school that featured his childhood friend, Lucy. Yes, there is a real life Lucy and sadly she recently passed away.
Diamonds is a great gem of a T-Shirt featuring graphics that will bring you back to the days of playing classic 80′s arcade games. The design was hand drawn and each shirt was screen printed by hand. And since they used a tri-color blending method, each shirt has its own unique qualities – no two shirts are the same.
In this episode of Co-Tee TV I wear FFB Raglan by Fur Face Boy and review Random Objects by Random Objects, a New York based brand that draws inspiration from quotes and proverbs. PS: This episode was supposed to be uploaded a while back, so some of the things that I talk about might seem … a bit dated
“Quotes and proverbs inspire all of our designs here at RANDOM OBJECTS. They are the common theme that run throughout all of our t-shirts and products. We take these various quotes and proverbs and interpret them visually. Sometimes the quote [proverb or saying] itself is the graphic; while at other times, they inspire us to design a graphic based around its’ meaning.”
Fur Face Boy sent me an insane amount of T-Shirts from their Series 3 Line. I will be featuring the shirts throughout Co-Tee TV Episodes 70-79 so definitely keep an eye out for even more Fur Face Boy in the coming weeks! See Episode 70 of Co-Tee TV for the Fur Face Boy full review.
You can also watch this episode on Vimeo, Viddler, YouTube, blip.tv and download and sync all episodes to your iPod, iPhone or iPad by subscribing for free to Co-Tee TV in the iTunes Store.
Coty’s Thoughts:
Origami Pigeon by Random Objects.Pros: I love the fact the brand is called Random Objects and that every shirt comes packaged with a … random object! My random objects was a pair of black pencils packaged in chop stick sleeves. So cool! The shirt itself featured the standard American Apparel white blank, which was comfy as always. The T-Shirt comes packaged in a clear plastic bag, which is a nice touch especially when the shirt is being shipped cross country. The T-Shirt is tagless and features a very large screen printed neck label instead. The T-Shirt graphic is awesome (i’ve always loved this design) and the print itself is quite soft. Cons: The only thing that I didn’t care for was the small Random Objects print right below the graphic on the front of the shirt. I the design could have gone without that. Price: $20 but use coupon code RANDOMOBJ at checkout for an extra 10% off your entire order.
“Pigeons are probably the most courageous birds in the world! They will walk through crowded city streets without fear, and will trot in front of oncoming traffic without hesitation. They’re everywhere… even on your shirt!”
That’s me in front of Katz’s in New York City, home of the greatest Pastrami sandwich and Meg Ryan’s infamous and very loud orgasm (Confused? Watch When Harry Met Sally).
Great cupcakes are to be had at Butter Lane! As suggested by long time Co-Tee TV viewer, Carlos J. EasyBake of Oven Fresh Dreams.
FFB Raglan by Fur Face Boy.Pros: Another excellent product from our friends at Fur Face Boy, this time, a Raglan tee. I’m a big fan of baseball style cut T-Shirts and so the FFB Raglan was a pleasant surprise in a box that was filled with FFB T-Shirts. My favorite part about this shirt is that it features the number 81, which coincidently, was the year that I was born. There are only a few left so be sure to grab them while you still can. Price: $34.
Check me reppin’ the Fur Face Boy on the Brooklyn Bridge!
PS: I did get to try out both Grimaldi’s and Lombardi’s Pizza. Grimaldi’s FTW!
Rob Pruitt recently unveiled his solo exhibition, “Pattern and Degradation” in New York City’s West Village. Problem is, he prominently features work in his gallery that was previously designed by two well known T-Shirt artists. AJ Dimarucot and Jimmy Benedict (aka jimiyo) submitted When Pandas Attacks as a joint project to Threadless over two years ago. Since then, it has been reprinted multiple times and was even selected as a Threadless Bestees nominee in 2008.
So it was quite a surprise when AJ found out that Pruitt was featuring When Pandas Attack in his own exhibit without first getting permission from himself or Benedict.
A member of Emptees, the popular T-Shirt forum for designers, even sent an email to the New York Times author (Randy Kennedy) that wrote the article about Pruitt’s exhibition and subsequently showed off Pruitt in a photo that prominently displayed When Panda’s Attack.
Dear Mr. Gangnath:
I know the painting you’re referring to. And yes, Pruitt did tell me it was an appropriation of a T-shirt design. But much of the work in the show is built around the idea of using other people’s designs – there are paintings on top of Ikea designs, ones that use recent Lilly Pulitzer designs, others that use well-known T-shirt motifs and classic paintings.
This kind of appropriation or quoting or borrowing or stealing – call it what you will – has been going on as a conscious strategy in the art world for many years now. I’ve written before about the Marlboro Man paintings of Richard Prince and how they use, without credit, the pictures of those who took the shots for the original ad campaigns. (I did a piece focusing on one of these ad photographers, who was upset that his work was being used.) It’s definitely an approach that does not sit well with some, especially those whose work is appropriated.
Thank you for taking the time to write to me about this.
Best,
Randy Kennedy
Gagnath argues that it is legit for Pruitt to use When Pandas Attack without the consent of the original artist or without proper credit because, well, other people do it and because appropriation has been going on for years. Difference is, Pruitt did not in any way re-invision or re-interprate the original piece, he simply copied and pasted an original piece of copyrighted work and is now passing it off as his own.
Lame.
That’s Rob Pruitt above, standing in front of Dimarucot’s and Benedict’s When Pandas Attack.
First off, before you start sending me hate mail, I do not and have never supported Adolf Hitler. What he did and what he stood for was an embarrassment to the human race. Having said that, Hipster Hitler, a webcomic by JC + APK is actually pretty hilarious! What’s brilliant is that Hipster Hitler wears a different T-Shirt in each comic strip and they actually sell said T-Shirts in their web store. The Hipster Hitler shirts are available via RedBubble and are priced at $27.93 a piece.
First off, HURRY, you only have 11 more hours (at the time of this post) to score Pirate Dragon at a staggering $12! OK, I had to get that out of the way before anything else – wouldn’t want you to spend 18 bucks when you can score this for a crazy insane price.
Our friend Bo from Tilteed sent this over to me a few days ago, but, I’ve been crazy busy so I didn’t have a chance to post this one. I know, there shouldn’t be any excuses when you’re trying to take over the world with your blog, LOL. It won’t happen again.
Pirate Dragon was designed by the veteran T-Shirt artist, Alex Solis (alexmdc). I’m a big fan of Alex, so, I was a little surprised that I was caught off guard with this design. I’m usually really, really really good at spotting alexmdc pieces. Whenever a new dsign of his pops up at Threadless, I know it’s his before even seeing his name. His style is distinct, and one that I am very envious of. I think it might have been the lack of color that threw me off. Needless to say, it’s a refreshing departure from his previous efforts. I like!
Pirate Dragon is available now from Tilteed for $12. By the way, I heard from a little birdie that Pirate Dragon will be part of the permanent catalog, so don’t feel to bad if you missed it at $12 – you can still score it at $18. Not too bad for a piec eof art on your chest.
And by the way, the guys and gals at Tilteed print everything themselves and like I said my previous post – that extra love and sweat makes for a T-Shirt that is superior to anything a robotic press could make.
