Design By Humans Helping Japan

Our friends over at Design By Humans have pitched in to help with Japan relief efforts with the release of their latest tee, Help Japan. Johnson Flores, a Philippines native and Design By Humans member, came up with the aqua blue, white, and red design. For every shirt that is sold (up until today), DBH will donate $3 to the American Red Cross. Hopefully, they decide to extend this donation offer.

Home Is Where The Heart Is

Home Is Where The Heart Is is a cute little iPhone themed T-Shirt that I discovered while perusing Daring Fireball. Apple pundit, John Gruber, had posted a link to Shawn Blanc’s new membership based website. It just so happened, that he was doing a giveaway during the weekend and one of the prizes was this Home Is Where The Heart Is T-Shirt. Considering that it was a T-Shirt, I decided to check out, not even knowing that it was Apple/iPhone themed. It turned out to be indeed just that, an Apple inspired iPhone themed T-Shirt. I was in love.

The shirt very much reminds of my favorite Milk & Eggs Co T-Shirt, Slide To Unlock. Both tees are very simple, and yet very recognizable to any iPhone or iPad user. The Home Is Where The Heart Is tee is a product from First & 20, a website that is dedicated to collecting and showing off iPhone and iPad home screens from some of the web’s most talented designer, developers and tech writers. If you’re itching to see what’s on the home screen of your favorite techie’s iOS device, then First & 20 should be your first stop.

Home Is Where The Heart Is is printed on an asphalt American Apparel T-Shirt and is available now from First & 20 for $20.

By the way, are you wondering what the home screen of my iPhone looks like? Well, here it is:

You can barely make her out, but that’s my chihuahua gracing my wallpaper. She’s a sexy beast. What does your iPhone or iPad’s home screen look like? Link it up in the comments so I can take a look ;)

Japan and Pacific Relief Threadless T-Shirt Challenge

Threadless once again is doing their part to help with disaster relief. It seems as if these disasters are occurring way to often for comfort. Still, it’s great to see a company like Threadless pitch in and lend a helping hand. The chosen design will help Japan rise from the rubble and provide aid to those people who need it most. Winners will receive $500 cash and $500 Threadless gift certificate. And of course, all proceeds from the printed T-Shirt will go to Japan relief efforts. Check out the challenge page here.

On March 11th, a magnitude 8.9 earthquake devastated Japan. The quake, officially the strongest in the country’s history, was followed by a massive Tsunami that swept away more than six miles of coastline. The disaster left hundreds dead and hundreds more still missing. With your help, tens of thousands of displaced Japanese citizens will rise from the rubble and begin the recovery process. Threadless will donate 25% from the sale of each tee to The American Red Cross’s Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami fund. The chosen design will be available for purchase at Threadless.

Paul McDonald’s Rhinestone Manuel Suit T-Shirt

Say it with me: The Paul McDonald’s Rhinestone Manuel Suit T-Shirt. Wasn’t that a mouthful? Now you might be asking, who the fuck is Paul McDonald? If that’s the case, then you haven’t been watching the totally enthralling Season 10 of American Idol. Yes, friends, I am a longtime viewer of the greatest guilty pleasure, American Idol. And I am not ashamed.

Simon Cowell might be gone, but the true stars of the show continue to sing their hearts out. My favorite contestant this season, and my pick to win it all, is singer/songwriter-esque Paul McDonald. He’s got a great vibe and I just love the tone of his voice. I thought he outshined everyone with his Top 24 performance cover of Rod Stewart’s Maggie May (see below).

Even more appealing, though, is his choice of wardrobe. During the “Hollywood Week” portion of the competition, McDonald sported an epic technicolor rhinestone encrusted dream suit. It was awesome. In fact, the suit goes back to his days with his band, The Grand Magnolias. Speaking of the Grand Magnolias, I took a listen to their recently released album (released November 2010), and it was pretty damn good. This left me to wonder why McDonald left the Grand Magnolias for Idol fame.

As far as the rhinestone suit, McDonald had this to say:

“It broke my bank, but it was an investment, like a guitar,” the sharp-dressed man recently told The Hollywood Reporter, discussing the signature suit he’s been rocking since his pre-”Idol” days with his Nashville band, the Grand Magnolias. -- via Yahoo Music

Now I bet you’re dying to know where you can get that rhinestone encrusted dream suit. Sorry to disappointment, but I have no clue as to where you can pick up a similar $4,500 suit. What I do know is that you can pick up a replica in T-Shirt form the Grand Magnolias official online store for $24.99.

Introducing Colus Havenga

Designer and animator, Colus Havenga, recently launched his latest project, Colus. The designs are quite interesting in that only the colors black and white are used. The designs are quite minimal and look as if they could have come straight out of Havenga’s sketchbook (and that’s not a bad thing). Bold lines are intertwined with sketch like imagery. I can imagine that these designer T-Shirts would look great, either stand alone, or even under a sporty black blazer. Even Kings Fail (last design seen below), is my favorite design from the bunch.

“Black and white. No convention. No visual trickery. This is colus. Crafted without trend, colour or design stunts to hide behind, this collection tries to stay in its humblest form of design where negative space is as important as the art itself. Colus explores themes of morality through to mortality with symbolic, bold, contrast rich works with an underground tone leaving questions unanswered.”

All Colus shirts are printed on white American Apparel tees are are available now at the Colus online shop for $30 a piece. Tip: If you sign up for the Colus newsletter, you can score a 15% off coupon code. You might want to act on this because i’m not sure how long this offer will last).

New Doctor Hazmat: Happy M.A.C.

The mad scientist’s over at Doctor Hazmat recently released their latest tee, Happy M.A.C., featuring the ever joyful Doctor Hazmat sidekick, M.A.C. You may remember, M.A.C. from Co-Tee TV a few episodes ago, he’s the long time friend, and assistant to Doctor Hazmat and incidentally the Doc’s first creation. M.A.C. stands for Multi-purpose Autonomous Cyborg, but it could easily also stand for Most Awesome Cyborg! M.A.C. is definitely a cute little creature, so be sure to keep your eyes on him!

“M.A.C. is always assisting Doctor Hazmat in the lab, and things don’t always go as planned. He’s been blown up, eaten, ran over… lets just say he’s been through a lot. But today is his lucky day. The Doc has given him a day off! YIPPEEEE!”

Doctor Hazmat tees are known for their big designs and bold color combinations, but as you can see, Hello M.A.C. is more on the subtle side. The grey design on the slate American Apparel T-Shirt is a refreshing variation to the other Doctor Hazmat designs.

Happy M.A.C. is available now for presale from Doctor Hazmat for $25.

Glennz Tees SXSW Pop-Up Shop

If you plan to be in Austin, Texas later this month for the annual tech/music/movie extravaganza known as SXSW, then be sure to stop by the Glennz Tees Pop-Up Shop. If I were attending SXSW, I’d totally stop by. In fact, I’ve been meaning to make it out to SXSW for some time now, it seems like an awesome event and something that I would really enjoy, but alas, I just didn’t have the time to make it out this year. Maybe next year? I should have a LOT more time and flexibility this time next year. Plus, I really love the Austin area, it’s got a nice college vibe and awesome bar and BBQ scene. I must make it out to Austin again!
