Be The Alpha is a step away from the typical genre of T-Shirts that we feature here. These T-Shirts were designed for people who are outdoorsman, athletes, and adventure seekers. These T-Shirts are made for those of us who aspire to be alpha, to be the best that we can be physically and mentally. Steve Grod founded his brand in order to promote the message of Be The Alpha:
“I have always believed that life is meant to be enjoyed and experienced, to the fullest. I always felt that many people are not truly LIVING; they are merely existing. I believe in creating my own destiny and inventing my own future. The Be The Alpha brand represents a re-definition of what it means to Be The Alpha. Real Alphas embody a quiet confidence and not afraid to question the status quo. They stay true to themselves and celebrate authenticity and individuality.” -Steve Grod
Gros is no stranger to adventure, he is both a Brazilian Jiujitsu practitioner and a avid hiker, he has pursued the art of Jiujitsu in Japan and summited many high peaks, from Mt. Fuji in Japan to many of the high peaks of the Himalayas, including a two-week sojourn to Mt. Everest base camp in Nepal. Cool.
I myself am becoming quite the avid extreme hiker. This year along I have hiked to the highest peak on the island of Oahu (Mount Ka’ala) and have also traversed what is considered to the the most difficult trail on Oahu, the Bowman Trail to Bowman Terminus and Haiku Stairs. The later hike was an 11 hour / 12 mile adventure that I will never forget. Imagine walking along ridges whose width is just the size of a foot, as well as near vertical climbing with and without rope. I am definitely trying my best to Be The Alpha.
Be The Alpha T-Shirts are available now from their online shop for $20 a piece but you can save 10% of your order if you purchase two or more items – just remember to use the coupon code GET10 at checkout.
I grew up loving Pe-Wee Herman. He was a riot, that is until he exposed himself and was subsequently taken off the air. Then again, I never really fell out of love for Pee-Wee, after all, it was Paul Reubens who exposed himself. If it was Reubens dressed as Pee-Wee exposing himself then that would have been really weird. I remember seeing Reubens’ mugshot on television the day of his arrest and thinking – that’s not Pee-Wee. In any case, I’d be proud to wear this Pee-Wee Herman shirt – he was part of my childhood!
Pee-Wee Herman is available now from beDO Shirts for $24.99 but you can save 10% by using the code “COTYG” for orders over $50. Score!

Love is complicated. Love is hard. Love is rough. Love is a compromise. Love is joy. Love is a Rubik’s cube. Most importantly, love is worth it. And that is why I can definitely appreciate Complicated Heart by Odd Society. Complicated Heart is available now for $20.
I’ve been giving Fab.com a lot of love lately, and that’s because I really do love the stuff that they are curating. If you like design, if you like art, and if you plain just love good stuff – then you’ll dig Fab.com. And they’re legit to me considering that they’ve featured two of my favorite indie T-Shirt brands in the last week alone – Chop Shop and Ugmonk.
With that said, you can now grab some official Fab gear as well. They’ve got a selection of T-Shirts (50% off at $12.5), tote bags (50% off at $10), and also Field Notes notebooks (29% off at $8.50). This sale is good until the end of the day so hurry!
“When we designed the Fab logo we wanted something simple and fun. We initially created these goods for internal use. But whenever our staff steps outside wearing them people always ask about them. So now’s your chance to be Fab too.” – Bradford Shellhammer, CCO and Co-Founder at Fab.com
If you’re not yet on Fab.com then sign up – it’s a member’s only invite site so if you’re not yet on here’s your invite from me.
I love a good deal and let me tell you, Griffin Technology has some pretty great deals going on at the moment. This is especially true if you’re a first generation iPad owner (like me). They’ve dropped the prices of a ton of their iPad cases by up to 78%. I myself picked up both the Elan Form (regular price $49.99; on sale for $13.99) and the Studio Stand (regular price $49.99; on sale for $10.99). Pretty sweet deal … so far … read on as to how you can save even more!
Perusing the rest of the Griffin Technology shop, I also noticed that they’ve upped their selection of Threadless iPhone 4 cases. I myself use a Griffin Reveal Etch. With that said, Threadless x Griffin Technology iPhone 3G, 3GS and iPod Touch 2nd Gen and 3rd Gen cases are 50% off at $14.99 (regular price $30). And you can also score a deal on a selection of iPhone 4 Threadless cases for $24.99 (regular price $29.99). Check out the selection of Threadless x Griffin Technology Cases here.
Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures recently released a photo revealing the look of Henry Cavill as Superman in Zack Snyder’s upcoming Man of Steel. The preview suggests that the latest incarnation of Superman will be darker and grittier. At first glance, I thought Superman looked great. As long as they stay away from spandex I will be happy. However, I did notice that one thing was missing from the latest Superman – the vintage front hair curl.
“There’s been a bit of a ruckus on the internets over Superman’s locks. If you know me, you know that I love Superman. LOVE him. The ‘Christian Slater’ coif he’s sporting here is keeping me up at night. It aint right. My Photoshop skills are meager at best, but I managed to give Big Blue a digital haircut. Alright now, where’s that phone book… lemme see… wonder if Zack Snyder’s in here…” -Chris Gardner
No worries, illustrator Chris Gardner put together a nice mockup of what Henry Cavill’s Superman would look like with the famous hair curl. The added curl definitely makes this Superman more Superman-like. While we are unsure as to whether or not Superman will sport the hair curl in the movie (no other photo stills have been released), Cavill was spotted on set sporting the curl as Clark Kent.
Now the only thing left to worry about is whether or not Superman will be sporting the red tights in the Man of Steel.

The guys over at Arquebus Clothing recently got a hold of me to let me know of their latest release: Don’t Give Up The Ship. Upon first inspection, I was really drawn to the large type and styling of the new tee. In fact, I actually took the next step of exploring what the rest of their T-Shirt designs looked liked. Lo and behold, the rest of the line was awesome. The line sort of reminded me a bit of 410BC crossed with Random Objects – and that’s a good thing because both are brands that I love. My favorite from the bunch is the wonderful An Idea is Salvation by Imagination design. I really dig the colorway of this particular shirt as well as the quote by renown architect Frank Lloyd Wright. Did you know that I have a framed photo of Fallingwater hanging in my room? Yup.
The Arquebus Clothing designs featured below as well as a bunch of other awesome tees can be found at the Arquebus Clothing online shop and are priced at $20 a piece.
To say that I am exposed to a lot of beachwear is an understatement. I live in Hawaii and therefore I am surrounded daily by beachwear. Board shorts and beach shirts are the norm not only at the beach but EVERYWHERE. Seriously, Hawaii is probably the only place you’d see a student sitting in lecture while wearing a bikini.
When it comes to beachwear, the only problem is that there really is a lack of indie brands. The usual suspects include established brands such as Quicksilver, O’neil, Billabong, and Hurley. And for that reason, it’s great to see Bondi Buddha taking a stab at the beachwear market. Bondi Buddha is a breath of fresh air in an increasingly complacent space over run by big corporate brands. Is beachwear the last frontier of indie T-Shirts? If so, then Bondi Buddha is leading the way.
Check out the Bondi Buddha online shop for the entire range of T-Shirts which range in price from $15 to $28.
