Oh. My Goodness. The latest T-Shirt from our friends at 604Republic is pure geek awesomeness! The shirt is called Beam This and it features what appears to be Darth Vader uppercutting somebody from the Starship Enterprise. Hah! I’ve always been a Star Wars guy. What’s odd is that as a kid, I always thought that Star Trek was a cheap knockoff of Star Wars – until later down the line when I learned that Star Wars was released after Star Trek. Still, everything about Star Wars is greater than its Star Trek counterpart. In my eyes, anyway.
It blows my mind to know that I have somewhat of an impact on the T-Shirt industry. But it blows my mind even more to know that this impact spans across countries. Needless to say, my attention peaked when I received an email from Local Tees, a brand that is based out of Kuwait. I was excited because, although I have received emails from many other countries, I had never received one from Kuwait – pretty neat. It’s also good to know that indie T-Shirt culture and awareness is growing in that part of the world.
With a name like Local Tees, I was expecting low quality, goofy and semi-humoroues tees, akin to something like 6DollarShirts. I was surprised by the design quality of the Local Tees shirts, they are definitely not throw-a-way designs, in fact, some of them are pretty spectacular. Local Tees were created by three Kuwaiti locals (hence the name) and the T-Shirts are limited to a print run of 50 a piece, with each shirt featuring a print number. Below you’ll find three of my Local Tees favorites. You’ll notice that a few of the T-Shirts feature text in the local type, however, many of the designs do not, and are in fact quite universal.
Local Tees was established in 2010 and was born based on an original idea, with that concept in mind, Local Tees was born and created by Three locals that began with a clear ambition of creating high-end limited edition t-shirts. With a specially chosen, high quality fabric, where the artwork is represented on 50 tees each with an edition number, ensuring no reprints will be forced. We believe in building an international network by collaborating with artists that represent ground-breaking self made inspiring artwork, to showcase the exceptional talents from all around the world.
by the way, their blog features some really cool product shots! Go check out some Local Tees.
First off, you should know that I am huge Rocky fan. My dad loves boxing, so growing up in the 80′s it was inevitable that I would watch the Rocky saga whenever humanly possibly. In fact, to this day, if Rocky is in marathon mode on either TNT or TBS, we watch it despite the fact that we own all of the movies on DVD.
And so it should be no surprise that I am quite fond of the latest Found Item Clothing original. It’s called Rocky’s Villains and is in the style of the popular Experimental Jetset tees. If this was any other tee, I’d probably hate the multi-colored typograhy. However, there is a reason to the colorful type madness and I can definitely appreciate it. If you’re confused then please refer to the photos below for reference.
I’ve noticed a lot of up-and-coming designers based out of the Philippines are popping up on both Threadless and Design By Humans. Zerobriant, a hot new artist from Design By Humans recently designed this tee, titled Freedom Fighter, for the popular contest site. The shirt also received Shirt of the Month honors. Unfortunately, it’s sold out in many sizes but you can cross your fingers and hope for a reprint!Â
Being that zerobriant is from the Pilippines and his tee features a boxer, I thought it was appropriate to share this clip of Manny Pacquiao knocking out Ricky Hatton in the 2nd round a few months back.
Punch Out for the Wii came out today and I am super excited to play it! I was a huge fan of the original Punch Out for the NES, starring none other than Mike Tyson. In fact, I guarantee you that if you were to let me play the original game today that I would still remember the correct duck, duck, side, side, punch combinations for each of the fighters. And am I the only one that thought Mike Tyson was impossibly difficult to defeat! Man, such a fun game. I hope the Wii version is just as fun!
Check out the live action trailers below (via Johnny Cupcakes) and the two Punch Out tees The Bald bull tee is courtesy of Crazy Dog Shirts ($18.99) and the one featuring Doc Louis and Little Mac can be purchased from 80′s Tees ($20).Â
