TypeTees Slogan-A-Day Experiment Week 8

Every day I come up with a new witty Threadless TypeTees Slogan in hopes of earning a place amongst the Threadless wordplay elite. At the end of every week I post a round up of that weeks slogans here on my blog. What can you do to help the cause? Vote! Just click on a slogan (preferably all of them) and then vote by click “I’d Wear It!” – it’s that simple! If you want to see and vote for all of my slogans then just click here or on that photo of me with the Rockband guitar. Vote for me and I will cook you an spinach omelet with mushrooms, ham and lots of cheese if ever we meet in real life.

TypeTees Slogan-A-Day Experiment

Week 8 (February 19, 2010 to February 25, 2010):

In case of fire: stop, drop and boogie the night away.

OK kids, you should never kid when it comes to fire. BUT..the old tip of stop, drop and roll makes me want to do a boogie woogie like its 1963. Not sure why. LOL.

Mangos. Such a sexist fruit.

It actually would be funny if Mangos were called WOMANGOS. Doesn’t seem to roll off the tongue in quite the same way, huh, HUH!

Turquoise: kind of green, sort of blue, and very indecisive.

Oh, I really like this one! Because sometimes, colors can be indecisive. Take violet, for example – that color always seems as if it wants to be more blue then it does purple. And don’t even get me started with teal. Ugh, that teal.

Drawers keep shirts safe, but they can’t draw for beans.

It really is a shame that drawers aren’t multi-talented. Then again, they do an excellent job of keeping my pants and socks safe as well. And lets not forget those undergarments.

Sexy Is Relative.

Because it is!

I might be a little weird but I am very friendly.

You can be as weird as you want to be. As long as you’re friendly, we’re cool.

Spinach: Proven to increase bicep size (in sailors only).

Because we all know what happens when Popeye eats a can spinach! I love to have spinach with my salads, though, the Spinach Effect seems to have no influence on me.

Castle Grayskull: Home Sweet Home

For the record, I was a HUGE Masters of the Universe fan growing up. HUGE! I had all of the “action figures” and I even had the epic Castle Grayskull! In fact, I still have all of the figures tucked away in a closet somewhere in my parents home. Having said that, I was blown away by this tee from Robit Studios. It’s appropriately titled Home Sweet Home and it undoubtedly features the characters of Castle Grayskull. Sweet! I’m a grown man and I want this shirt – nothing wrong with that because this shirt is epic.

Home Sweet Home is printed on an asphalt American Apparel tee and is available now for purchase from Robit Studios for $21.

Johnny Cupcakes + Looney Tunes

Ever since I started to follow the indie T-Shirt scene with a keen eye, I’ve been a big fan of the Johnny Cupcakes brand. I even made it a point to visit his shop on Newbury street the last time I was in Boston. Up to this point I’ve always been impressed by his creativity and imagination, as well as the way that he has interacted with his community.

Having said that, the latest collaboration, one with animation pioneers, Warner Bros., just doesn’t do it for me. When I think Johnny Cupcakes I think exclusivity. Everything about the brand is exclusive. They’ve made a ton of money by parodying pop culture. And now that they’ve got an actual pop culture icon on the front of the tees, it makes feel more “meh” than “woah.” For some reason, seeing Bugs Bunny on a Johnny Cupcakes shirt reminds of similar Looney Tunes shirts I’d see in Sears or JC Penny, with the exception of there being a Johnny Cupcakes logo slapped on. Again, more “meh” than “woah.”

Johnny, before you could ever dream of landing big licenses like that from Warner Bros., you were already making the freshest shirts around. Warner Bros might need you, but your brand certainly does not need them. You mentioned, “We did have an entire bound book given to us that was filled with rules and regulations. A what-not-to-do book. From the littlest details like whisker placements. All in all, using the tools that were + weren’t given to us, I think these came out great.” I disagree, I don’t like these for the very fact that you played by the rules. What I would have dug would have been a unique take at these classic WB characters. Sorry Johnny, I just feel like you failed to deliver on this one.

600 Cartoons and a T-Shirt to Boot!

For a penny less than a standard Shirt.Woot tee (that’s $9.99 for the non math savvy) you get 600 cartoons on 12 DVD’s packaged in a tin can and includes a poster and, wait for it … a T-Shirt! This is crazy, guys. Now, it might not be the most fashionable T-Shirt, it’s basically the DVD artwork plastered on the tee. That’s not the important part. The important part is – 600 cartoons! Favorites such as Popeye, Woody Woodpecker, Casper the Friendly Ghost, Betty Boop, Felix the Cat, Little Lulu, Clutch Cargo, The Three Stooges and included in the collection!

This was actually the first time that I checked out the new Kids.Woot site and based on the find, it wont be my last!
