I’m not entirely sure what the story is behind this particular T-Shirt from Babablon Tess, but it’s fun and quirky and interesting. It sort of reminds me of a sketch that you’d find from a budding artsist’ sketchbook. The shirt is called Unicyclist but the character riding the unicycle reminds me of those mexican wrestlers, though he’s missing the quintessential lucha libre mask. Cool shirt.
My tip for this particular artist/brand (who is a graphic designer and musician from Bristol, UK) is to give us more of the story and inspiration behind the T-Shirt. Right now it’s just a wrestler on a unicycle, but what’s the story behind this image? What inspired you? This should all be in the product description.
It blows my mind to know that I have somewhat of an impact on the T-Shirt industry. But it blows my mind even more to know that this impact spans across countries. Needless to say, my attention peaked when I received an email from Local Tees, a brand that is based out of Kuwait. I was excited because, although I have received emails from many other countries, I had never received one from Kuwait – pretty neat. It’s also good to know that indie T-Shirt culture and awareness is growing in that part of the world.
With a name like Local Tees, I was expecting low quality, goofy and semi-humoroues tees, akin to something like 6DollarShirts. I was surprised by the design quality of the Local Tees shirts, they are definitely not throw-a-way designs, in fact, some of them are pretty spectacular. Local Tees were created by three Kuwaiti locals (hence the name) and the T-Shirts are limited to a print run of 50 a piece, with each shirt featuring a print number. Below you’ll find three of my Local Tees favorites. You’ll notice that a few of the T-Shirts feature text in the local type, however, many of the designs do not, and are in fact quite universal.
Local Tees was established in 2010 and was born based on an original idea, with that concept in mind, Local Tees was born and created by Three locals that began with a clear ambition of creating high-end limited edition t-shirts. With a specially chosen, high quality fabric, where the artwork is represented on 50 tees each with an edition number, ensuring no reprints will be forced. We believe in building an international network by collaborating with artists that represent ground-breaking self made inspiring artwork, to showcase the exceptional talents from all around the world.
by the way, their blog features some really cool product shots! Go check out some Local Tees.
I’ve noticed a lot of up-and-coming designers based out of the Philippines are popping up on both Threadless and Design By Humans. Zerobriant, a hot new artist from Design By Humans recently designed this tee, titled Freedom Fighter, for the popular contest site. The shirt also received Shirt of the Month honors. Unfortunately, it’s sold out in many sizes but you can cross your fingers and hope for a reprint!Â
Being that zerobriant is from the Pilippines and his tee features a boxer, I thought it was appropriate to share this clip of Manny Pacquiao knocking out Ricky Hatton in the 2nd round a few months back.
