Love Your Work. Work Your Love.

There really isn’t any reason for you to do something that you don’t love. If you don’t love what you do then why do it? For money, you say? We’ll that’s a pretty bad reason. Your work should be about passion and it should be about love. If you’re not passionate about what you do then it’s inevitable that you’ll be miserable doing it. But the best part about working at what you’re passionate about is that it is almost guaranteed that magic will happen in one way or another.

The latest tee from Holiday Matinee is the epitome of this. Love Your Work. Work Your Love. There’s nothing else to say other than you can pick up this tee from Holiday Matinee now for $22. Do it.

The Friendship Algorithm Flowchart

Infographics are all the rage on the Internet, but no one does it better than Dr. Sheldon Cooper of the Big Bang Theory.

It’s not surprising that when Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory decides he needs a new friend (Bawwy Kwipke, because of his wole with the Open Science Gwid Computew), he approaches the problem scientifically. Because we all occasionally need a little help doing that, we’ve reproduced his flowchart on this shirt. Unfortunately, it’s difficult to follow the arrows when you’re wearing it so you either need to convince an extant friend to wear this shirt with you (which can lead to awkward questions) or rig a series of mirrors. We recommend the mirrors. It involves fewer humans.

The Friendship Algorithm Flowchart T-Shirt is available now from ThinkGeek for $17.99.

Philadelphia/San Francisco Day 4

Day 4 T-Shirt of Choice: Love Your Fellow As Yourself by schmoo

Unlike yesterday, Day 4 started off with a nice chunk of sunshine. That was a relief. We were able to do a few of the things that we missed out on yesterday when it was pouring cats and dogs. The day started by walking to City Hall, which is located just a few blocks from the Loews Hotel. We signed up for the tower tour and went to the top of the City Hall clock tower, just below the large William Penn statue that overlooks the City of Philadelphia.

LOVE Sculpture Philadelphi

After taking a few pics from the top of City Hall, we walked over to Love Park, where Robert Indiana’s iconic LOVE sculpture stands. We took a gazillion photos and then moved on to the Comcast Center. The Comcast Center has a neat (and very huge) HD video wall, with short videos playing throughout the day. Below the lobby you’ll find a small market. We made a pit stop there, where I picked up a drink and a small croissant. The croissant served as a warmup to our Pat’s and Geno’s pilgrimage.

Geno's Steaks

(Top: Genos is all glitz and glamour but lacking in the taste department. Bottom: Pat’s, good but not as good as Jim’s Steaks)

My frist experience with a Philly Cheesesteak came to me at Jim’s Steaks. After that first cheesesteak, my mind was blown and I was ready to experience the much hyped Pat’s and Geno’s variety. We caught a taxi from the Loews Hotel to the Cheesesteak mecca of the world. For the uninitiated, Pat’s and Geno’s are located right across of each other and are considered rival cheesesteak stands. So of course, we had to experience both Pat’s and Geno’s. Pat’s was alright, and Geno’s felt a bit too generic (though, their fries were good). My conclusion, Jim’s Steaks dominates both Pat’s and Geno’s. If you want a Philly Cheesesteak, then know this: Jim’s Steaks is the center of the universe.

Despite the disappointing Pat’s and Geno’s experience, dinner more than made up for it! In our attempt to hit up the restaurants of all of the Iron Chefs, we just had to experience the newest Iron Chef Jose Garcia’s restaurant, Amada. Garcia’s Amada specializes in authentic Spanish Tapas. We settled on three different dishes, the LECHÓN CON QUESO (Braised Pork Shoulder, La Peral, Pine Nut, Apple & Fennel), ENTRECÔTE A LA CATALAN (Prime Sirloin with Catalán Spinach, Membrillo & Goat Cheese), and the ARROZ DE LANGOSTA (Lobster Bomba Rice with Clams, Lemon Zest & Golden Pea Shoots). The dishes were nicely proportioned, and, more importantly, tasted oh so good.

We decided to pass on dessert at Amada and opted instead to get some ice cream at the famed Franklin Fountain. This old school ice cream fountain is like a time warp, as evidenced by the decor and the staff who were dressed as if it was the 1920’s. You might recall that Adam Richman of Man Vs. Food had the Mt. Visuvious here. I decided on the Franklin Mint and Michelle had the Banana Split For My Baby. Both were very indulgent choices. We honestly should have shared one, but, I was intent on mint ice cream. Needless to say, we tried as hard as we could, but in the end, neither of us ate more than half of our ice cream dishes.

And as I’ve been doing, here’s a video slideshow of some of the photos that we took during this lovely day in Philly!

Otters Holding Hands

The newest tee from Shirts Taste Good is too adorable to pass up! Be forewarned, the accompanying video of two otters floating around at the Vancouver Aquarium oozes cuteness and you will unleash an “awwwww” at some point during the viewing of the video – if not then you’re not human.

Love Is Blind by Reece Ward

For my Master’s Thesis, I researched individuals suffering from migraine aura. If you’re not familiar with migraine aura, it’s basically a migraine that includes visual hallucinations prior to the actual migraine attack. One of the pre-tests that I did on patients, just to make sure their vision was okay was the Ishihara Colorblind Test. And so when I saw this tee, designed by Reece Ward, memories of my Master’s Thesis came flooding back.

I love the concept of Love Is Blind and would definitely wear it in a heart beat. It would be so awesome if I was still giving these colorblind tests to patients. It would probably lead to some interesting conversations! You can pick up Love Is Blind by Reece Ward from his RedBubble store for $24.34.

Beetnik Aesthetics Releases Two New Tees

I am so excited by the new release by Loren from Beetnik Aesthetics! It’s the long awaited follow up to his initial release and I have to admit that these new tees are awesome. Although he released just two new designs, both are available in two colorways each, and, according to Loren, have improved in the quality department.

1) Higher quality tees – ringspun cotton is lightweight, super-soft and very comfortable, and the tees are more fitted and stylish than the first run of tees.

2) Soft prints – the inks aren’t thick or plastic-like, and almost blend into the shirt. I love this!

3) The colors POP! The pictures really don’t do justice for these shirts. The inks are almost neon, and look absolutely fantastic (especially on the darker shirts).

4) Gradients – my first time experimenting with color fades, and I couldn’t be more pleased.

The tees are available now for the introductory price of $18 (regular price is $22). And just so you know, I checked out his stock and it looks like these are super limited, only a few in each size is available. When I say a few I mean less than 10! So if you want em’ go get em’ now!

New Jon Wye Shirt Designs

Remember our friend Jon Wye? Sure you do, we featured him in Indie Tee Spotlight #14 and we did a video review of his Homemaker leather belt. Well, Jon Wye is back, this time with a ton of new tee designs!

He has got 6 new designs, in both men and women’s tees. Included in his most recent release is a tee that he is calling the “the FIRST stylish Washington, DC.” Here’s what he had to say about the appropriately named Washington D.C. tee:

Most DC shirts come from the National Mall right next to the Hot Dog vendors, and don’t really reflect the city!

This new DC shirt hits the mark. The rigid letters spelling out “Washington” represent the more, well, rigid elements of the city… business… POLITICS! And “DC” along with the outside of the whole graphic are coated in a goo. The GOO is the rest of us, the underbelly, the coating which makes DC fun.

Washington DC

To go along with the DC tee, Jon also released a couple of other fun and neat designs. I especially like that Fighting Rooster and Richie Rich  tee! You can buy these tees here. Remember, Jon Wye is part of our Attack of the Coupons promotion so be sure to use the coupon code “5up” to take $5 off your purchase!
