Co-Tee TV Episode 79: Fancy FFB, Doctor Hazmat and Vintage NES

In this episode of Co-Tee TV I wear FFB Fancy by Fur Face Boy and review Super Doctor Hazmat by Doctor Hazmat, a super fun brand from Brooklyn, New York, that takes the mad scientist theme to the next level. Doctor Hazmat is a mad scientist that just loves to keeps hazardous materials in his lab. And sometimes when things go awry, crazy creatures and monsters are created, like M.A.C., the doc’s crazy robotic assistant.

Fur Face Boy sent me an insane amount of T-Shirts from their Series 3 Line. I will be featuring the shirts throughout Co-Tee TV Episodes 70-79 so definitely keep an eye out for even more Fur Face Boy in the coming weeks! See Episode 70 of Co-Tee TV for the Fur Face Boy full review.

Coty’s Thoughts:

Super Doctor Hazmat by Doctor Hazmat. Pros: So much to love about Super Doctor Hazmat! First of all, I really dig the retro throwback 8-Bit style. It instantly brought me back to my childhood of playing Super Mario Bros. on my NES for hours at a time. For me, great shirts tend to bring back nostalgic memories and Super Doctor Hazmat definitely did that. Doctor Hazmat uses American Apparel blanks, so I had no issue when it came to the T-Shirt itself, it was very soft and had a comfortable fit. The print on this tee is HUGE and the design works perfectly as a large print. The shirt features a 5 color print that is not only large but also quite soft. You’ll also find that the tee is tagless and features a custom screen printed neck label instead. Also, on the back of the tee you’ll notice the Doctor Hazmat seal of approval.

Suggestions: Doctor Hazmat is a brand new brand, and so it’s no surprise that all of the focus for this initial released was poured into the part that mattered the most – the T-Shirt (this is a good thing). However, this leaves a lot of room to do some crazy fun things for future releases. I’d love to see custom packaging (fun, whimsical, colorful) to go along with the very loud T-Shirt designs. You could do some really crazy things, theme wise, with Dr. Hazmat. Just step into any science lab and you’ll be swarmed with tons of potential ideas (this is great for the theme). Also, another professional touch that could potentially be added later would be a hang tag. Again, this can be done in a variety of creative way. For instance, instead of a “hangtag” per se, he could use something similar to the Hazard sticker that is often found on the door of any science lab. So many great possibilities, I really look forward to seeing what Doctor Hazmat does in the future!

Price: $25 but you score 15% off your ENTIRE order by using the coupon code COTY at checkout!

FFB Fancy by Fur Face Boy. Pros: It’s been 9 straight episodes of Fur Face Boy goodness and so I think that it’s safe to say that I now have Fur Face Boy in my blood. I can’t say how much I’ve become a fan of this brand. Fur Face Boy is meticulous, detailed, and retro but current enough to be interesting for consumers. Most importantly, with every single Fur Face Boy T-Shirt that I’ve worn and that I have reviewed, I can just feel the passion resonate from each piece. A little piece of Ha Mai (the Fur Face Boy Founder) can be felt with each and every one of his T-Shirts. Trust me when I say that when you order a tee from Fur Face Boy, you will not just receive a tee, you’ll receive a tee made with love and a detailed eye. Much respect.

Price: $19.99 (On Sale).

Co-Tee TV Episode 71: Fur Face Boy, I Hate Clowns and T-Shirt Forums

In this episode of Co-Tee TV I wear Little Fur Face Boy and review the Experimental Jetset Parody Tee by I Hate Clowns, a brand that was established in 1996 and passionately hates all things clown related. Like, they seriously hate clowns.

I Hate Clowns Experimental Jetset Parody by I Hate Clowns. Pros: Perfect T-Shirt for those of you who loathe clowns and everything clown related. Tagless tee that instead features a custom screen printed neck tag. Relatively soft print on a 100% cotton T-Shirt. T-Shirt ships in a plastic bag to protect it from the elements during shipment. T-Shirt also came with an I Hate Clowns keychain and stickers. Cons: The T-Shirt itself, though a bit shorter in length than I am typically used to, is otherwise flawless. Experimental Jetset purist might disapprove the use of the “I Hate” text above the clown names. Price: $19 but you can save 15% off your order by using the coupon code “YAKKO” at checkout.

Video Games Lied To Me

Our friends over at Made With Awesome just released a brand spanking new tee that is perfect for people who aspired to be plumbers based solely on their experiences with Super Mario Bros. You see, Super Mario Bros. changed everything in 1985 when it came to the plumbing industry. Super Mario Bros. was a game changer. It made plumbing exciting and almost James Bond like. As a plumber, you jumped through pipes, beat up the bad guys, smashed a few turtles along the way and then get the girl in the end. Super Mario Bros. made plumbing awesome!

But as with other things in real life, plumbing was not all it was made out to be. After the release of the original Super Mario Bros. for the NES was released, a number of eager kids aspired and eventually became full-fledged plumbers. Needless to say, there was to be no pipe jumping, no beating up the bad guys, no run in with turtles and unfortunately, plumbers never got the girl in the end.

And so the lives of these ordinary plumbers carried on. They’d fix broken pipes, but not do much else. For many children turned adults, the plumbing industry was a big fat lie. And to bring this sham to the attention of the masses, Made With Awesome delivers their very straight forward Video Games Lied To Me About The Adventurous Lives of Plumbers. Because sometimes, you just need to draw a line. This is Made With Awesome drawing a big fat line. You can buy it now from Made With Awesome for just $22.

And P.S., if you enjoyed this shirt then it is a necessity that you check out this list of 101 Nintendo T-Shirts.

101 Nintendo T-Shirts For The Ultimate Nintendo Gamer

To say that the Nintendo Entertainment System was a part of my childhood is quite an understatement. The original NES was in fact a big part of my childhood. I recall countless hours playing Super Mario Bros., Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!!, Rad Racer, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, just to name a few of my favorite titles. I remember leaving the NES on overnight just so that I could save my place in in a particular game and continue playing the next day. I remember vigorously blowing into cartridges to kick start them back to life. I remember the countless hours of fun that I had with my NES.

101 Nintendo T-Shirts

This list is built on that childhood love that I had for Nintendo. To this day, you can still catch me playing with the Nintendo Wii or my DS. The only difference now is that I can look good (and so can you) in Nintendo gear while I am gaming out. Enjoy the list!

I’d love to hear which one of these are your favorites and whether or not you own any of these tees! And if you know of a NINTENDO related shirt not on this list then please tell me about it. Leave a comment below in the comments section and let me know!

If you enjoyed this post then please, please, please, tell your friends about it! A simple Tweet or post on your Facebook page will help to get the word out, and a link back on your blog would be greatly appreciated!

Airdrop by Glennz Tees

I’ve been talking a lot about tees that bring back feelings of nostalgia (see NES Zapper post below) and the newest tee from Glennz Tees really hit my nostalgic soft spot. Airdop is yet another excellent design by Glenn Jones, how he comes up with these awesome ideas on a consistent basis amazes me. I need to pick up this shirt, dust out my vintage Game Boy and blow on my original Tetris cartridge and get my game on. That would be awesome. You guys can pick up this tee from Glennz Tees for $19.95.

ZAP Exploded

The Exploded guys (that’s what I’m calling em’) have done it again! This time, they’ve deconstructed the original Nintendo Zapper for our geek pleasure. Designed by artist Garry Booth, this design brings us all the way back to the 80’s when Duck Hunt was a fresh faced phenom and not regulated to the used video game bin at the local video game store.

Growing up I LOVED playing Duck Hunt if only because using a gun to shoot flying pixels resembling ducks on my TV screen was the closest I would get to duck hunting in Hawaii.

This gem can be had from ZapExploded.com for $17.

ReThink Clothing Zapper – Vintage Nintendo!

Now this is what I’m talking about, ReThink Clothing! I am in love with the newest offering from Andy Meyer of ReThink Clothing. The shirt is called Zapper and it features a relic from my childhood – the original NES Zapper! I remember spending countless hours in front of the TV zapping at flying ducks on the screen. So much fun, just like this tee! Zapper is available in two colorways, Orange and Asphalt, and is printed on American Apparel blanks. You can pick it up from ReThink Clothing for $19.99 and be sure to use the coupon code “COTY” for an extra 20% off your purchase at ReThink Clothing! New Super Mario Bros. + 10 Mario Inspired Tees

Nintendo recently previewed their latest blockbuster game at the E3 2009 conference and my goodness am I excited! They have been releasing so much retro NES goodness for the Wii as of late that I’m not sure if I can take it. First, Punch Out and now, New Super Mario Bros. in all it’s 2D side scrolling goodness. I am so excited to play this game especially since it offers multi-player beyond just Mario and Luigi. I’ve never been so excited for coins in my life. Cha-Ching!

And to commemorate this momentous occasion I have here 10 unique Super Mario Bros. inspired tees and a hoodie to boot. All of these are available for purchase with the exception of Super Mario Skull.

1. Game Over by Fuzzy Ink. First up, we have Game Over from our buddies over at Fuzzy Ink. This is one of the more fantastical of the Mario tees here as it features our favorite characters all grown up and elderly! Maximum cuteness factor indeed. This Jublin designed tee is available on a Grass colored American Apparel tees and can be purchased for $18.95. Use the coupon code “Hawaii” for 10% off your order!

2. Super Mario Bros. Sushi by thickblackoutline. This tee by thickblackoutline really made me realize just how good Super Mario Bros. would taste as sushi. Okay, that might have come out wrong. Nonetheless, it’s a great shirt and available now at Red Bubble for $28.83.

Super Mario Bros. Sushi

3 and 4. Mario Block and Mario Frog Suit by Nerdy Shirts. Nerdy Shirts really has some love for our favorite Italian. They have a bunch of Mario inspired tees available and here are two of them: Mario Block and Mario Frog Suit. Mario Block reminds us of how simple and fun B-bit gameplay really was. Mario Frog Suit reminds me of Super Mario Land for the original Game Boy (remember the level that you had to swim and kill that huge octopus/huge fish boss).

5. Magic Mushrooms by Ian Summers. It’s no surprise that Magic Mushrooms by Ian Summers made my list of favorite Mario inspired tees. After all, it was my Threadless Pick of the Week in Coty Loves Threadless Episode #15. They are running low in stock really fast on this tee over at Threadless so if you want it I suggest you go and pick it up now. I was able to secure a guys size large (there were only 2 left when I did).

6. I Sneak Down Pipes by Euan Gallacher. I Sneak Down The Pipes was conceived by the Tee Doctor, Euan Gallacher, a Scotland based T-Shirt prescriber! It’s a clever play on the much used I Heart NY tee. I Sneak Down Pipes is available from MySoti for $17.72 and is printed on a white Alstyle tee.

I Sneak Down Pipes

7. da Vinci’s Mario by Kevin Tong. Artist Kevin Tong designed this masterpiece, titled da Vinci’s Mario and inspired by Leonardo da Vinci’s famous Views of a Fetus in the Womb. This three color design is printed on an American Apparel blank and is available for $20.

8. Warrior Plumbers by Dr. McNinja. Have you ever wondered what Mario, Luigi and the rest of the Super Mario Bros. gang would like in real life? Wonder no more because Warrior Plumbers by Dr. McNinja answers that very question. Warrior Pumbers is printed on Hanes Beefy Tees and is available for $19.75 from TopatoCo.

Warrior Plumbers

9. Super Mario Skull by MisNopalesArt. This Super Mario Skull tee from Etsy is just a tad bit disturbing. Just a tad. Our favorite plumber in skull form and in the raccoon suit to boot! What is wrong with this picture! This tee is unfortunately no longer available for sale.

Super Mario Skull

10. Video Game Shirt by Stay Up. If video games are your religion then this is the tee for you. And right square in the middle of that 8-Bit cross is non-other than 8-Bit Mario. Pick up this tee from Stay Up in either a white or tan colorway.

Video Game Shirt

Enclothe MarioFlague. And for the finale, I have this epic Enclothe MarioFlague zip up hoodie! Talk about attention to detail and a sure conversation starter. It’s a fully custom designed hoodie that features and inside breast iPod pocket, metal mushroom zipper pull, quick action cuff thumb hole, and an extra spacious 3 panel hood. This item can be your for $65.

Marioflauge

I’m always on the hunt for a great Super Mario Bros. inspired tee. If you know of one that’s not on this list then let me know and maybe it’ll make the next wrap up!

The Power Mitt by Johnny Cupcakes

Johnny Cupcakes continues to pump out new products for the summer. Here are a couple of his latest, including his latest tee, Power Mitts! How many of you remember Nintendo’s Power Glove from the late 80’s? If you do then Power Mitt from Johnny Cupcakes is the tee for you! The shirt sells for $35.99 and is available now for purchase. Check out the video below for an old school Power Glove commercial.

Power Mitt

Mr. Cupcakes also released a pair of crossbones printed shorts ($64.99) and rolling pin board shorts ($59.99). I dig the casual crossbones shorts but am not sure if I would trust those board shorts. I have had bad experiences with boardshorts not coming from a brand that specializes in water sports. Quiksilver is my brand of choice when it comes to board shorts because of their durability and selection of wacky and fun designs.

An NES Buckle and a Shirt To Match

This is actual very cool. It’s called the NES Buckle and it is a belt buckle made from an actual classic NES controller! They cost 30 bucks for the buckle alone and $45 if you buy the NES buckle and leather belt combo. To celebrate the relaunch they had to find more controllers!) they are giving away a $10 discount code to the first 100 people to use the code so you better act fast if you want to take advantage of this deal! The code, fittingly, is “upupdowndown”.

NES Buckle

but alas, this is a tee blog and any post minus a tee, will not cut it! So here you go, the perfect tee to go with this belt! ACTUALLY, the recently released Threadless tee, The Gaming Revolution by Sean Mort, would be a better fit but I’ve already featured it on the site!

The tee is called model no. NES-004 and it’s coming to you from Huzzah Goods and it sells for $25.
