There have been a lot of really cool ideas that have been posted on Kickstarter, including this one. We Flashy is a collaborative idea thought up by Alex Vessels & Mindy Tchieu of Brooklyn, NY. The pair had a desire to be seen at night while walking or biking, but weren’t interesting in wearing those ugly reflective vests. Instead, they wanted something that was fashionable, not an eye-sore, and could be worn throughout the day. We Flashy is just that.
We Flashy is a project that started because we wanted to be seen by motorists while walking or biking–but didn’t have time to change on the go.
The benefits of being flashy. The great thing about We Flashy items is that it reflects light on busy streets, but is barely noticed in normal indoor environments. It’s versatile enough to wear to school, work, or out for a drink.
We Flashy uses industrial-grade reflective material–the same kind that crossing guards, police, and firefighters use. If lit by a light source such as headlights, the reflective material returns the light back to its original source, reaching the motorist’s eye.
It also sends light directly back to a camera during flash photography, causing the garment to glow in photographs, making for stunning nightlife pictures.
They even put together a neat little video about We Flashy, which you can watch at Kickstarter (I’d embed it here but for some reason, WordPress won’t let me) … so go watch it here. The video shows off the We Flashy tees while being worn at night, and I have to admit they look pretty cool.
We Flashy has about 35 days left (as of this writing) for their Kickstarter campaign. The goal is to reach $6500 and right now they are at $2664 with 62 backers. Pledge now, and as with other Kickstarter campaigns, you’ll receive special perks if the project gets funded. Good luck We Flashy!
