Every day I come up with a new witty Threadless TypeTees Slogan in hopes of earning a Threadless Alumni Club Medal of Honor. At the end of every week I post a round up of that weeks slogans here on my blog. What can you do to help the cause? Vote! Just click on a slogan (preferably all of them) and then vote by click “I’d Wear It!” – it’s that simple! If you want to see and vote for all of my slogans then just click here or on that photo of me with the Rockband guitar. Vote for me and I will bake you your own burrito if ever we meet in real life.
I was listening to someone talk about biochemistry and this slogan popped up in my head! Would make a good Valentines Day TypeTee, Threadless staff **Wink, Wink**!
OK, you need to be both a web geek and a Threadless geek to get this one. Before Twitter made 140 characters an iconic cultural limitation, OMG Clothing (later to become TypeTees) made 65 characters the max you had to get your thought across. In my opinion, 65 is so much harder to do than 140.
Step 1. Find yellow and green marker. Step 2. Color yourself with said markers until your entirely green. And there you go – BAM – GREEN! Now go worry about your carbon footprint.
Really, it should! If cameras can do it then why not the eyeball! Imagine if you could zoom in and out using your MIND. That would be insane. I want that!
Admiral Ackbar has been getting a lot of attention in the tee world as of late. First it was the popular Obama Hope parody tee featuring the admiral called “Trap.” And now Might Tees has released a limited edition (150 shirts printed) Admiral Ackbar ASCII It’s A Trap tee. The design was inspired by the ASCII art that liters the Digg comments section and is part of the Might Tees Death by ASCII Art series. It’s A Trap is printed on an organic cotton tee and is available now from Might Tees for $35.99.
The product description for Records from TopoRanch reads “Topo Ranch figures it might remind you of a time when your inner DJ was first awoken by a record player you received for your 5th birthday.” I actually had a toy record player growing up and I remember loving that thing. I had a bunch of thse “storytelling” records. Do you guys remember those? I also remember having a bunch of promotional ALF vinyls from Burger King! Imagine getting a vinyl with your kids meal. I can’t even fathom that now.
It’s sort of weird. I grew with records because my mom loved them. She had (and still has) a large record collection and I loved being able to choose what record we’d play next. But I grew to favor CD’s and then the mp3. I’ve recently been wanting to experience vinyl once again but every time I think about getting a turntable I do a 360 and head straight back to the digital realm of iTunes. I really think me and vinyl need to renew our relationship with one another.
Some of you might remember the Human Ingredients shirt that I posted a few weeks ago. Remember I complained about it being a bit messy looking? Well, it turns out that someone had previously done a similar shirt and guess what – it looks much nicer and a ton neater! Here is RedBubble arttist, animo’s take on the Human Ingredients shirt:
And while I was perusing her store I noticed a couple of other tees that caught my eye, including Classified: Human. This shirt is so uber geeky cool, I love it! I would have definitely put it on my 101 Science T-Shirts list if I had seen it before!
In this episode I review Roboboy from Aaitski and wrap up my summer long series on ongoing T-Shirt contest sites by reviewing Stroller by John Fitzpatrick from Finroo!
This week I continue my summer long series on Ongoing T-Shirt Contest Sites. Every week, I will be reviewing a different tee from one of many different online contest sites. I’ll be discussing how each of these sites differ, how the submission and selection process work and what your rights are as a designer. Check out past reviews on: ShirtFight, A Better Tomorrow, Full Metal T-Shirt, tFuse, Design By Humans, Teextile and Tilteed.
You can also watch this episode on Vimeo, Viddler, YouTube, blip.tv and download and sync all episodes to your iPod or iPhone by subscribing for free to Co-Tee TV in the iTunes Store.
Coty’s Thoughts:
Stroller by John Fitzpatrick and available at Finroo.Pros: The shirt is OMG soft. It seriously is one of the softest shirts I’ve ever worn. Finroo uses Direct-To-Garment printing but this is by far the softest print I’ve felt, screenprinted or DTG. The shirts are printed on organic bamboo. The print seems to be built right into the fabric, it’s the seamless. From touch alone you cannot tell where the print starts and where it ends. It’s tagless for itchfree comfort and features a screenprinted necktag instead. Inside of the lower hem there is a print that shows the number of the shirt (out of 100). Finroo claims their shirts to be all natural and hypoallergenic but i have no way to test this. Cons: It’s a bit pricey but other than that there’s not much that I can complain about. Some of you might find the shirts to be too thin. If you enjoy staying cool then you’ll appreciate the thinness. No custom packaging, just a FedEx mailer. Price: $34.99
Roboboy by Aaitski.Pros: If you enjoy wearing character based shirts then you must check out Aaitski. They feature some of the most fun characters you’ll find on the Internet! This shirt features a custom hangtag. Cons: The sleeves were a bit longer than I typically like and the arm holes were a bit wider than I am accustomed to but the rest of the shirt fit fine. Aaitski URL printed on back of shirt. Price: €25 ($36 US).
If you want to send me a product to review, please feel free to do so. You can find my information in the contact menu above. Thanks!

This is actually the best defense to getting wedgies, and the cheapest! I don’t think that I’ve been the victim of wedgies (it helps being the oldest child amongst siblings and cousins) but I do remember dishing them out!
Indeed everyone and their grandma has decided that going green is the best way to go. And of course it is. It’s even become a fashion statement for some and hence, organic “stuff” is the new black.
I was trying to decide what beverage to get for lunch on this particular day (I decided on H20) and stumbled upon a bottle of Welch’s grape juice. I instantly thought of @garyvee and then wine. I’m not sure why I thought of @garyvee (I’m excited about his new book, BTW) but as I was thinking about him and I thought about how grapes don’t deserve to be smashed. What have they ever done to us!
There’s isn’t really an excuse for having no excuse. Even better, try not needing an excuse in the first place that way to won’t have to worry about having an excuse for an excuse. I just confused myself there.
I Am Wellness is a clothing brand based out of Seattle, Washington and operated by a young couple that is dedicated to empowering the people that wear their tees and those around them. All I Am Wellness tees are made 100% in the USA which is always a good thing.
My overall impression of the company, based on their overall mission and story, is that they fill a niche in the apparel industry geared towards those interested in living a healthy lifestyle, whether it be through exercise and athletics, eating right, or living green. I can definitely see this line being sold in health clubs, spas and gyms throughout the country – I think these tees would see in those markets.
I talked a little bit with one half of the I Am Wellness team. We discussed the meaning of I Am Wellness, their target demographic and some of the lessons they’ve learned as newbies in the industry.
Coty: What does I Am Wellness mean to you?
Brandon: I AM WELLNESS is an empowering phrase which means unlimited possibilities, unlimited potential, the ability to achieve anything no matter what current situation you are in.
Coty: You mention on your website that your brand is all about empowering the people that wear your products. How would you describe your target demographic?
Brandon: The I AM WELLNESS brand was created to empower all people to live the fullest life possible regardless of their age, current health or financial status. It should invoke a feeling of unlimited possibility and unlimited potential. Our target demographic is anyone who wants to better themselves and help empower the lives of those around them. This demographic is very diverse, it ranges from people who are healthy, sick, young, old, rich and poor – it is truly for everyone.
Coty: Prior to starting I Am Wellness, neither you nor your wife Annika had any experience in running a clothing brand. What has the experience been like for the two of you so far?
Brandon: Since neither Annika nor myself have a background in the clothing industry we had to learn from the ground up. Starting our clothing business has been a very creative experience. It has been very fun and we have met all kinds of really cool people.
Coty: What are two important things that the two of you have learned during this process?
Brandon: Two of the most important things we have learned is:
Trademark your idea! Before we launched our first shirt we had already started the trademark process. Chances are, if you think you have a good idea, someone else will try and profit from it. We have already had people try and copy our brand.
Be patient, have fun, stay excited and…..get a cool website! Make sure you have an easy to use website that provides detailed information about your products, cool photos, email sign ups and a place for people to receive free information (blog, spotlight, etc.).
This is an amazing industry which takes time to grow in. Don’t let slow sales get you frustrated, as you develop your brand and grow as a company the sales will come.
Most of all, have fun, enjoy the journey and remember…it’s just t-shirts!!!
Technology is a major part of my life and has integrated itself into nearly every aspect of my life imaginable. It has even begun to seep into the clothes that I wear! Back in the day, I remember sporting my favorite Napster tee, or that hard to find Apple tee (usually gotten from an OS release). Now, many tech companies provide tees for purchase making it easy for teach fanatics like myself to show on their chest their weapons of choice.
Here are 7 different technology based tees that reflect innovations that I enjoy to use (or visit and read in the case of Laughing Squid). I’ll focus on “official” tees for this post and do a future post on some 3rd party tees (if you know of some cool ones let me know).
Do you have a favorite technology tee that you like to use and show off? Post a link to the shirt so that others with similar technologoy tastes can buy and enjoy!
1. Wordpress. Does Wordpress run your blog (I do for this blog)? Then checkout this site for a selection of official Wordpress t-shirts and other merchandise. You can pick up either a red or olive green Wordpress tee for £9.50 GBP. The tees are printed on American Apparel.
2. Google/Blogger. Is Google the first thing you see when you open your browser? Are you part of the Blogger faithful? If so, then you might enjoy some official Google gear. In fact, there is a wide selection of Google merchandise available in their store, from organic tees to recycle track jackets. They’ve even got tees printed on 70% bamboo and 30% cotton. They claim the bamboo component makes it antimicrobial and feel like a mix between cashmere and silk! The Wearables section in the Google store offers 36 different products! The tees are priced between $13.50 – $20.00.
3. Laughing Squid. This is one of my favorite blogs to visit in InternetLAND and it just so happens that the Laughing Squid’s Scott Beale sells an official t-shirt printed on American Apparel and available for 20 buckaroos!
