Coty Loves Threadless #1

I’m experimenting with Seesmic! Every week I’ll be reviewing the new batch of tees that Threadless releases. I’ll only be doing the new releases and not reprints, and won’t touch the Selects or Typetees (yet). If you’re not familiar with Seesmic, it’s a great little video site were you can easily record videos and people can reply to your videos with video replies. I’ll try and do these videos every Monday, to coincide with the new releases.

The videos will be pretty raw, and pretty fast. I’ll spend about a minute per tee and I’ll give my thoughts on the tee. I’ll be rating the tees with either 1 wink for being a good tee, 2 winks for being an awesome tee that I would wear and 0 winks for a tee I would never wear.

So, here’s the first episode – let me know what you guys think! PS: Just click on the design image and it’ll bring you straight to that designs product page!

Lost At Sea by Jared Stumpenhorst is my Threadless Pick of the Week!

Glorious Nonsensities 2×03: Paisley Paramecium, My Liver Hates Me and Jon Kruse

In this episode I wear Paisley Paramecium by Julian Glander and review a tee that I purchased from My Liver Hates Me. The My Liver Hates Me tee is, easy enough, called My Liver Hates Me. That’s right, an online store dedicated to a single tee. Now that is dedication! This tee was designed by Jon Kruse and so I also talk a little bit about some of the services that Jon offers. Remember that you can get 15% off this tee with the code “coty”.

You can also watch this episode on Viddler, Vimeo, or on blip.tv.

Coty’s Thoughts:

My Liver Hates Me designed by Jon Kruse. Good: Love the design, simple and straightforward, great conversation piece or as a gift for friends that like to drink. Bad: Tee is kinda baggy for a mens Large, arm holes are a little on the wide side. Price: $14.00 but get 15% off with the coupon code “coty”.

Glorious Nonsensities 2×01: Jon Wye, Belts and Monkeys!

I’ve been getting some great items in the mail for me to review, and have been for the past few months. I enjoy all the stuff I’ve been receiving and really appreciate it! Anyhow, I thought I would bring back the video reviews that I started last August and then abandoned after just three episodes. I decided to give the video thing another go, this time with me being a little less eccentric, going without the Twitter nonsense in the middle and much much more information about the product and brand.

I’m going to be keep these in “beta” for the first four episodes (yes, I’ve pre-recorded four of these) so they’re pretty raw. We’ll see how the first four episodes of season 2 (and I use that term lightly since there wasn’t much of a season 1, LOL) go and if you guys like them then I’ll keep going with them. So, let me know what you liked and what you didn’t like.

In this episode I wear Monkeys! by Christian San Jose, available at Hippie Fruit, and review a belt sent to me by belt and shirt designer, Jon Wye. To get a close up view of the belt check out this 3D preview by Jon. Enjoy with tea and a comfy tee!

You can also watch this episode on Viddler, Vimeo, or on blip.tv.

Coty’s Thoughts:

Monkeys. Good: great fit, huge print, print by Jimmy Heartcore, cheap  and sweatshop free. Bad: Some moms might cringe when seeing this tee. Price: $11.

Monkeys by Christian San Jose

Homemaker Belt by Jon Wye. Good: genuine leather, custom made in the USA, very detailed print, colors are very vibrant, print on front and back, tiny signature on buckle (nice touch), nice keychain adds a nice touch, everything hand made by Jon Wye. Bad: Nothing really, might be a bit flashy for some but he also sells blank black belts and other designer belts. Price: $65.

PleaseDressMe TV Launched

Last September I reviewed the then new site, PleaseDressMe so I was automatically interested when I found out on Twitter that the first episode of their new online show was was available. I just wrapped up watching the first episode of PleaseDressMe TV, the show hosted by the Vaynerchuk Brothers, Gary and AJ. I have to say that I did enjoy the first episode, aptly titled as a “beta” by Gary. The show reminded me a lot of the formula used for Wine Library TV. It was shot Gary’s office, which is a familiar setting if you watch the other video’s that Gary posts on his personal site.

Much like WLTV, PleaseDressMe TV discuses and rates a bunch t-shirts on a 100-point scale. They rated a total of 7 shirts, each coming from a different vendor/brand (i.e. Threadless, Design by Humans). They rate these items based on different factors that are very subjective like design, feel, comfort and color. So it’s interesting to see how they will rate simple t-shirts vs. more complex t-shirts in the future (just because it has 12 colors doesn’t mean it deserves a score of 90+).

I liked how Gary intertwined some of his business sense into the show, especially when they started talking about personal branding during the Kid Robot segment. The only issue I had with the Kid Robot segment is when they scored the shirt low because of pricing (the shirt cost $50). I think that the review should be based more so on design rather then pricing, just my opinion.

They did give one bad review on the show, with Gary calling the Collar Free tee Freedom by Rachel Cobb “ugly.” This was interesting to watch, since praise is so commonplace in the t-shirt culture. I’ll be looking forward to more harsh reviews – it’s entertaining.

Gary and AJ also give away free tee’s on the show, in varying sizes, so that’s great. Also, they have live interaction via Ustream which is awesome in terms of user interactivity and feedback.

All in all I enjoyed the show. I’ll be watching future interviews and it may have inspired me to do a couple more video posts of my own in the future! Click on to watch the show:
