Hey T-Shirt designers! I recently received an email from the people at Slanted Magazine and MAGMA Brand Design in Karlsruhe, Germany. Together with font designer, Lars Harmsen, they are working on a new book related to the topic “typographic T-shirts.” They are currently having a call for entries so if you’ve designed a Typography Tee then why not take a chance and submit your design. There’s is no cost to submit and everyone that is chosen for inclusion in the book will receive a copy.
TypoShirt One is about typography on T-shirts. It is definitely not the first publication that deals with the topic of “T-shirts”, but it’s the first one that focuses exclusively on the typography phenomenon in T-shirt culture. Only shirt motifs created explicitly with typographic means shall be presented in this publication. There are no fees, it’s totally cost free!
We would like to invite everybody to contribute to the book TypoShirt One, the typography T-shirt compendium. The book will be published at Index Books in 2010.
We invite everybody to submit their own projects for this publication, bringing together typographic designs of T-shirts from all over the world, showing quotes, sentences, words, letters and numbers or any other typographic pieces of work.
Participation or having work selected for TypoShirt One is totally cost free on your part. Also, if your work is selected, you’ll get a free copy of the book.
Deadline to enter your submissions is 19th of March 2010.
Please check our website where you’ll find all participation requirements.
Well, not really risqué per se but Wordboner tees do have a bit more edge than your typical Threadless Typetees shirt. The shirts are a spinoff of the Wordboner site, which they tout as typography with personality. I actually really like a bunch of their wordplay t-shirts (see below for a few of my favorites). They use direct-to-garment producers Spreadshirt so these tees are not screenprinted, that’s the only negative. The positive is that because they use Spreadshirt you’ll be able to choose from a variety of different T-Shirt styles and colorways. The Wordboner tees start at $14.99 for basic tees.
When Experimental Jetset created their “John & Paul & Ringo & George” for the Japanese label 2K/Gingham I would bet money that they probably did not think it would become the cultural icon that it did. “John & Paul & Ringo & George” has been parodied over and over and over again. Or should I say, Over & Over & Over again. NerdyShirts now adds to the list of brands and individuals capitalizing on the success of Experiment Jetset’s typographic idea. Pick up all four of these shirts for $19.97 a piece and score free shipping. Place your order before this Friday (12/18/2009) to make sure you receive it before Christmas!
Paper Root Clothing has released a ton of new tees printed on American Apparel Tri-Blend blanks. American Apparel Tri-Blend tees are some of the softest shirts I’ve worn, they are also a bit more slim fitting. Nonetheless, they feel really good! The new releases from Paper Root has got me really excited. There were a bunch of designs that I really dug, including their Mystical Seahorse tee and the Escape from DC tee (a parody of the Escape From New York/Escape from L.A. movies but featuring Abraham Lincoln as Snake). But you know how much I enjoy type tees so I just had to throw in their WIN tee, which isn’t necessarily a new release but that certainly doesn’t take away from it’s awesomeness.
By The Numbers is a cool red shirt that I stumbled upon while checking out the Escape Artist online shop. The tee does remind me a bit of Ugmonk’s Words Aren’t Always Meant To Be Read tee. I love how the digits pop on the red tee and I chuckled when I read this on the product page: “And whether you want a cheat sheet for a kindergarten math test, something nostalgic for an amputee, or just proof that you’re the kind of person who can be counted on… this shirt has your number!”
By The Numbers is printed on an American Apparel tee and is available now for purchase for $20.
In this episode of Co-Tee TV I wear Melted by Desired Hearts and review Modern Art and Pirates from New Math by Craig Damrauer. The shirts are based on the popular website, More New Math, and the book written by Damrauer. The site, book and shirts feature witty equations for every day living.
You can also watch this episode on Vimeo, Viddler, YouTube, blip.tv and download and sync all episodes to your iPod or iPhone by subscribing for free to Co-Tee TV in the iTunes Store.
Coty’s Thoughts:
Pirates and Modern Art by New Math.Pros: The New Math shirts by Craig Damrauer match the New Math website and book perfectly. Printed on American Apparel tees so you know that I dig the fit and feel of these shirts – super comfortable and soft. My shirts came packaged in a lovely New Math printed cardboard box. Excellent shirt for those who enjoy mathematics, typography or just fun witty one liners. Cons: Nothing really. The shirt is what it is and that is a compliment to the New Math book and website. Price: $20.
Yes/No is the new pair of tees just released by the typography experts over at Ugmonk. I think the product description says it best:
“Sometimes you wake up feeling great and you’re willing to say “YES” to just about anything. Other times all you want to do is say “NO” – leave me alone! Now you can just let your shirts say it for you.”
You can pick up Yes/No for $38 from Ugmonk, be sure to use the coupon code “COTY09″ for an extra 10% off your entire order. And yes, you do get both shirts. And no, you can’t purchase these shirts separately.
Remuse Fashion is a modern, urban based clothing line targeted to the teenage-young adult demographic. Their tees are bight, bold and intricate. Each of the tees are screen printed on American Apparel shirts and range in price from $12.99 to $17.99.
The Remuse shirt featured below is titled Music Is My Remuse and was my favorite from the Remuse line. The bold typography and psychedelic colors make this shirt a winner (for me at least). If you enjoy music, why not let the world know. Purchase Music is My Remuse from Remuse Fashion for $15.99.
I spotted this tee over at ATshirtBlog.com and it was too awesome to pass up posting here. I thought I’d spread the love for this Pop + Shorty designed tee a bit further. Buy this for any web designer and I guarantee that it will make their day! I hardly ever make guarantee but this tee is guaranteed to impressed even the most grouchy designers.
You Are The CSS To My HTML is printed on an Athletic Grey American Apparel Tri-blend tee (this shirt is OMG soft) and is available for purchase now at the Pop + Shorty store for $25.
Let’s say for a moment that you didn’t know this shirt spelled out Party Time. Let’s say you thought PAR, TYT, and IME were one of those fancy Internet acronyms kids used these days. What would PAR, TYT and IME stand for?
PAR: Peak At Rear (what does this even mean I have no idea?)
TYT: Take Your Time, Text Your Tits
IME: I have no idea.
Think of something for IME and post it in the comments! Party Time is printed on American Apparel blanks and you can pick one up from Wahey Clothing for £15.
