This is episode #18 of Coty Loves Threadless and we’ve got a wonderful bunch of tees to review this week! My Threadless Pick of the Week is the wonderful tee by Olivier Fritsch Gomez, titled, Face! How did the rest of the tees fare? You’ll need to watch to find out! This week I also start the summer long series on Ongoing T-Shirt Contest Sites. Every week, I will be reviewing a different tee from one of many different online contest sites. I’ll be discussing how each of these sites differ, how the submission and selection process work and what your rights are as a designer. This week we kick things off with ShirtFight!
You Might Need More Than A Nightlight This Time by Evanimal.Good: Nice custom packaging and T-Shirts are individually packaged. This is the first ever winning tee at ShirtFight and so it makes a nice collectors item. Printed on an American Apparel tee so you know I like the fit, 5 color soft print, orders come with a ShirtFight thumb wrestling kit. Bad: I wish they went tagless. Price: $18.00.
Exploded 128 by Garry Booth. Fun shirt for any Mac fanboy (like myself)! I’d wear this tee with pride any day. Love the colorway and it’s printed on a American Apparel tee so you know that I dig that! Price: $18.00.
Chimps are amazing animals. This tee reminds of the semester I spent in an Animal Learning class watching videos of chimps doing amazing things. See below an example of a chimp participating in an experiment of short term memory and then a human male repeating the same experiment. It’s amazing, trust me.
One Smart Monkey is a new tee from Uneetee and it features an anthropomorphic chimpanzee decked out in a long sleeve tee and spectacles. This tee is printed on an American Apparel tee and is available for $19.99. It’s available in limited quantities and sizes so act fast!
In this episode I wear Wingtips by Manos Lakoutsis and review a tee from Ten Bills called Bird Is My Best Friend that was designed by Doug Cowan. Ten Bills was founded on the idea that cool, fresh looking shirts should be made available for just 10 bucks. Ten Bills made that happen and now you can get fresh tees all year round for a stunningly affordable 10 bills.Â
Bird Is My Best Friend by Doug Cowan.Good: Great illustration from Doug Cowan, the shirt fits great, a little longer than American Apparel tees but that shouldn’t be a problem after the first wash. The tee is tagless for itch free comfort and features a screen printed neck label instead. The best part of the tee is it’s price – it’s cheap! This is a great shirt for anyone that’s into philosophy, animals or both! Bad: Not much, I was a bit skeptical about quality, at first, but the shirt is comparable to what other sites are selling at double the price. I’ll sure be picking up tees from Ten Bills in the future! Price: $10.00.
Wingtips by Manos Lakoutsis for Threadless. This here is a classic Threadless tee. I’m not wearing a first edition, unfortunately, but still – great shirt! This one is actually printed on an American Apparel tee rather than the Threadless branded tee (I prefer the AA fit over the Threadless fit). Perfect shirt for any shoe snob. Price: $9.00 (available in very limited quantities and sizes).
Here’s a cool video that I stumbled upon on the blog of the German T-Shirt contest site, A Better Tomorrow. The two and half minute video was done by Leo Belik and shows T-Shirt preparation and printing using an automatic carousel machine. I never get tired of seeing T-Shirts go from start to finish.Â
This is a cool little video that I found on Vimeo and created by Pete Ashton. It’s Pete showing off his collection of 84 T-Shirts. Pretty neat! And for the record, I own just two of the 84 tees that he shows in the video, iSteamPhone and A Birth Day.
It’s Threadless review Monday! Episode #14 is called Invisible Awesomeness because Philip Tseng delivers with his newest design and my Threadless Pick of the Week - The Invisible Gentleman! If you haven’t yet, be sure to check out and vote for my TypeTees slogan submissions -- I’m submitting one every day until I get printed! Every vote counts so vote for a slogan and help me get printed.
Who is ready for some Threadless action for this wonderful Monday? It’s episode #13 and this week I’ve got tentacle fever -- probably because a bunch of this weeks tees have tentacles! My Threadless Pick of The Week also had the Threadless pimp spot, it’s Ode to Joy by Joe Car aka Isaboa! If you haven’t yet, be sure to check out and vote for my TypeTees slogan submissions -- I’m submitting one every day until I get printed! Every vote counts so vote for a slogan and help me get printed.
The following video comes courtesy of a tweet made by T-Shirt printing extraordinaire, Jimmy Heartcore. The song is called The First Day of My Life and it is performed by the band Bright Eyes and it’s from their 2005 album, I’m Wide Awake, It’s Morning. I absolutely love the song and I think that the simplicity of the video captures the complexity of living life to the fullest perfectly. Definitely enjoy this music video with tea and a comfy tee!
If you enjoyed this song I highly recommend that you check out Conor Oberst’s solo album, it’s genius (and I think I’ve featured him on this blog once before). Below you’ll find a pair of tees from Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band (Conor is the lead singer of Bright eyes) that I found in his Big Cartel store.Â
In this episode I wear the Signature Silvareware Tee from Pyknic Clothing and review Public Radio from LOWDTOWN Friends & Freaks, a New Jersey based brand started by student Ray Masaki out of a desire to create a brand with focus, a consistent theme and amazingly creative designs. Use the coupon code “COTY” on your next LOWDTOWN Friends & Freaks purchase and save 10%. As always, enjoy with tea and a comfy tee!
Public Radio by Ray Masaki of LOWDTOWN Friends & Freaks and Nathaniel Milburn.Good: Love this design, great collaboration between Ray and Nathaniel, colors work wonderfully together and is a great tee to wear out to the park on a sunny day or one that you could just as easily wear fashionably around town. It’s tagless for itch free comfort and has a screenprinted label, The custom custom hangtag is impressive and the embroidered seam tag adds an extra touch of professionalism normally seen only on higher priced tees. Bad: Not much, this tee should put a smile on your face – if you’re having a bad day throw this shirt on and you’ll begin to feel positive vibes! Price: $21.99 but you can save 10% if you use the coupon code “COTY” at checkout.
Signature Silverware Tee by Pyknic Clothing. Great shirt, I’m not sure what kind of blank Pyknic Clothing uses but I really like the feel of this shirt, it’s very soft, just like the massive print. Really dig the design, love the subtle, classic and mature look of this Pyknic tee. Paired with nice vintage jeans, white dunks, along with a jacket (or blazer) over tis tee and you’re good to go for a night out in the town. Price: $24.98.
