T-Shirt Gift Guide for the Bookworm

Hey T-Shirt fanatics, welcome to my 2010 Holiday Gift Guide series! I feature some of my favorite T-shirt related items and even some things beyond T-shirts that I simply just love and would like to recommend to all of you. If there’s something that you think would fit in this list then please feel free to link to it in the comments! Enjoy and please feel free to share on Twitter using the Hashtag #GiftGuide.

I’m not a big book person, but there are times when I love to just sit back, relax and enjoy a good ol’ book. More recently, I’ve been spending more time reading books using my trusty iPad. Needless to say, if you’ve got a friend or family member that you know loves to read, then infuse some of your T-Shirt passion into their love for books by picking them up one of these amazing gifts.

1. Know someone who is a fan of classic literature? Well, your first stop should be Kafkacotton. They’ve got a bunch of tees that are inspired by the classics, or for some, those books that we were forced to read in middle school. Slaughterhouse-Five by Kafkacotton, Price: $24.00.

2. Chances are that if you’re buying a gift for a T-shirt fanatic, said T-shirt fanatic probably has some knowledge of Threadless. It’s even more likely that they have a closet full of multi-colored Threadless tees (maybe even duplicates of their favorites). And if they do, they’ll definitely love the recently released Threadless 10 Year Anniversary book by company founder Jake Nickell. Threadless: Ten Years of T-shirts from the World’s Most Inspiring Online Design Community by Jake Nickell, Price: $15.

3. Torso presents t-shirts whose motifs not only function as a means of personal communication, but also reflect and increasingly influence the complete spectrum of modern graphic design. As the first book to focus on t-shirts created by the most innovative and style-setting streetwear brands, it is the definitive guide to the t-shirt culture of streetwear. Torso: Streetwear T-Shirt Graphics Exposed by Daniel Eckler, Price: $34.00.

4. Out of Print Clothing celebrates the world’s great stories through fashion. Score a fashionable tee featuring the classic artwork from Catcher in The Rye (one of my personal all-time favorites) as well as a bunch of others. Catcher In The Rye by Out of Print Clothing, Price: $28.00.

5. Tee Library T-Shirts are hard to find online, but if you live in one of the cities that they are available in then you can score your favorite bookworm an amazing book inspired T-Shirt. Tee Library, Prices: Varies.

6. Threadless released a couple of Comics-on Tees T-Shirts. I believe there are three diferent issues that you can grab, with more expected in the future. Threadless Comics-on Tees Series [click T-Shirt below to go to product page], Prices: $10-15.

7. Tees is one of my favorite T-Shirt related books. It’s got an excellent collection of T-Shirts and brand profiles. It’s a must read for any T-Shirt fan. Still not convinced? Read my review hereTees Special edition: The Art of the T-Shirt by MAKI Design, Price: $36.00.

You might also want to consider:

I can’t get enough of my iPad. It’s always in my backpack. I bring to work. It’s the perfect lunchtime companion. It’s the best couch device ever. And for bookworms, not only will they have access to books in Apple iBookstore, but they will have access to every book available in the Kindle Bookstore. You’ve got the best of both worlds with the Apple iPad. I’m currently reading The Zombie Survival Guide: Complete Protection from the Living Dead and loving it (I must add that this is the perfect book for the zombie enthusiast). I use the 64 GB Wifi edition and I absolutely adore it. Apple iPad (64GB, Wifi), Price: Starting at $542 on Amazon.

Flip-Up Zombie T-Shirt Costume

At first glance people might suspect that you’re not properly dressed for Halloween, but the joke will be on them once you reveal the hidden surprise on the underside of this clever tee from DeezTeez. Instantly turn yourself into a zombie by flipping the bottom portion of the T-Shirt on to your head. And booom, you’ve instantly been transformed into a flesh craving zombie. Poke some holes into the eyeball portion of the design and you can walk around all night as a zombie while you trick or treat. Though, your arms may get a little tired. Unless of course, you’re one of those super zombies from 28 Days Later.

The Flip-Up Zombie T-Shirt Costume is available now from DeezTeez for $15.99.

Though, I have to admit that these tees from the recent Resident Evil: Afterlife premier looks much better! [Thanks to David Seibei for the tip!]

The promotional Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles shirts Capcom printed up for Comic-Con (which takes place from July 23-26) have their own dark side: specifically, the inside. The shirts look nice enough when worn normally: a “let your darkside out” slogan adorns the front amid zombie silhouettes, and the game’s logo occupies the back. [via Joystiq]

Co-Tee TV Episode 65: Zombie Liquorice, Arachnophobia and T-Shirt GIVEAWAY!

In this episode of Co-Tee TV I wear Night Knight by Chad Lenjer  and review Arachnophobia by Zombie Liquorice, an independent clothing brand dedicated to bringing you the goriest and most terrifyingly horrific T-Shirt designs.

Coty’s Thoughts:

Arachnophobia by Zombie Liquorice. Pros: Only 50 of these bad boys were printed and are therefore very limited, so if you want Arachnophobia you better buy it now. The T-Shirt is tagless and features a screen printed neck label instead. Zombie Liquorice went with a distressed acid washed American Apparel tee as the blank, very original and uncommon choice of a T-Shirt. Beautifully illustrated single color print. The ink on this T-Shirt is super soft, it blends in well with the fabric. Cons: Like I mentioned earlier, the print run for this design was very limited – size XXL is already sold out and other sizes are going quickly. This style of AA T-Shirt tends to be a bit more form fitting then the regular AA T-Shirts, and they are a bit longer in length as well. Price: $20 but you can save 11% by using the coupon code “COTYGONZ” at checkout!

The Imperial Undead

I’m not the biggest fan of the zombie/gore genre, especially when the shirts take themselves too seriously. Parody shirts, however, I am a fan of. This tee by ShantyShawn melds two of my favorite things, Star Wars and parody designs. The fact that the characters have been turned into freakish zombie types, doesn’t really bother me too much. I think the new look gives Darth Vader some character.

“If you thought the Empire was evil before, now they’re undead and hungry for some rebel flesh. If you love zombies and Star Wars, then this is a must have for your wardrobe. Your Jedi friends will be sooo jealous!”

The Imperial Undead is available now at ShantyShawn’s RedBuble shop for $23.94. If you dig his design, you may also want to check out his online portfolio, Shawn Conn: Snapshots from Hell’s Carnival.

I’m Fat Let’s Part + Zombie Dinosaur!

Our good friend David Murray of Seibei just released two new (and awesome) tees! I’m a big fan of Seibei and will probably be ordering at least one of these tees in the near future. My navy and white Sandwich Dinosaur tee is getting a little worn out so I think it might be time to upgrade to the brand spanking new Zombie Dinosaur design.

Although I never grew up as the prototypical fat kid, there was a time when I was referred to as being husky. Husky, hmmmmmm. Is that code for fat? Probably. And as such, I’d be proud to wear the new I’m Fat Let’s Party Shirt.

Both of the new tees are available now for sale at Seibei for $22. Also, word on the street is that Seibei will be unleashing a brand spanking website redesign. I’m excited to see what he has in store for us.

New Zombie Liquorice Tees

Zombie Liquorice does not discriminate, to them, Halloween is to be celebrated all year long! The gore heavy clothing brand just released four new tees featuring artwork by Aaron Kerr, Joshua Belanger, Mathew Skiff, and Chad Lenjer. And for those of you looking for something to match your holiday wardrobe, might I suggested that Polarized tee? My favorite from the bunch was Red Splatter District because for some reason it looks like something my favorite director would think up.

As with the rest of the Zombie Liquorice line, the shirt are printed on American Apparel blanks. You can pick up one or all four for just $20 a piece but whatever you do, use the coupon code “COTYGONZ” at checkout for an extra 11% off your entire order!

We kick things off in a big way by reviewing Night Knight from Zombie Liquorice and designed by Chad Lenjer aka discordantart. Plus, Zombie Liquorice is sponsoring a give-a-way and this means someone will be walking away with the Dan Mumford designed Bone Ranger Shirt from Zombie Liquorice. How exciting!

Coty’s Thoughts:

Night Knight by Chad Lenjer aka discordantart and available at Zombie Liquorice. Pros: Zombie Liquorice sure has an eye for detail, from the custom packaging to the large and intricate designs, everything is well executed. They use American Apparel tees that fit like a charm and feel great. Night Knight is screen printed in three different areas (front, back and inner neck) and is tagless for itch free comfort. Overall, I am very impressed with what Zombie Liquorice has to offer. Cons: Zombie Liquorice will probably not appeal to everyone. Having said that, if you love horror movies, gore, metal, and/or skulls then I highly encourage you to checkout Zombie Liquorice – you’ll probably enjoy the rest of what they have to offer! Price: $20.00 but you can save 11% by using the coupon code “COTYGONZ” at checkout!
